Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: JoEBoBpr on 12-21-2011

This beer brings together tow of our favorite ingredients; hops and rye - serious hops up front provide a pungent, floral, and citrus character. We use centennial, Columbus, and Cascades in this hop lovers dream. The rye provides a slightly spicy flavor and a full mouth-feel. Divided Sky pours straw in color with notes of tangerine, grapefruit, and pine. Drink fresh!

Thanks to ryanfolty for hauling this back from the far Midwest for an in-person hand-off. 12 oz. can with some Thomas Covenant-style graphics. Best by 5/4/15 stamped on the can bottom, so I’m clear for the best possible experience.

The pour is startlingly clear, close to perfectly clear, light amber. Mild head that I have to pull a sleight of hand trick to get into a 12 ½ ounce glass. Aroma is a bit shy, with light spicy rye & a malty sub-plot. As it warms, citrus becomes more prominent.

Divided Sky Rye IPA – the Russian judge isn’t going to like this one. The rye really bounces off the canines here, a blast of spiciness that hits me right between the gums of the front teeth. Hard bitterness spins the wheel into borderline dank territory, with a spittoon of citrus, weird bit of old bubblegum. Long drawl of caramel winds right into the end. A bit thin, but that feeds into its strength as something I’d like to sip while tending the grill. You know, if any vague warmth ever arrives in this god-forsaken latitude.

A good beer. If it gets warm by 5/3/15, I’m going to shotgun the last of these out on the deck, on my back, staring up at the sun. There is still a sun, right? (1,201 characters)

22 oz bottle. Pours hazy golden orange with a huge creamy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is rye malts with some sweet bread and not a lot of hop.

The flavor is sweet bready malt with spicy rye and peppery grassy hops with a good amount of bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with lots of carbonation.

Overall, a decent rye IPA. The rye is prominent with good bitterness but not a lot of hop flavor. (437 characters)

Cloudy light brown in appearance. A thin layer of foam across the top of the glass. The nose is a fantastic blend of piney aroma hops with a twist of rye. I'll be honest, it smells amazing! Very light in terms of mouthfeel. Pine like hops on the forefront and followed by that slight tickle of rye on the tongue. Well executed. The best offering thus far by this brewery and many of theirs are good. (399 characters)

Unfortunately I think the bottle my neighbor picked up was a bit over primed and it affected everything...taste, scent, mouthfeel, etc. The beer poured a hazy orangish yellow with foamy big head that did not leave much lacing. The scent carried some citrus and pine....but mostly that overprimed blah. The taste was more malty that hoppy....meaning there was a sweetness that was trying to balance the hop. The mouthfeel was medium in body and the had big carbonation. Overall it was ok...I would definitely try it again if given the chance. (541 characters)

Pours a hazed & pretty much gushing straw color with crazy amounts of pearl colored head. Never cleared up, crazy head retention & lacing

S: Peppery & floral notes, grassiness & breadiness

T: Follows the nose, nice malty sweetness up front, grapefruit & pineyness as well. Dryness, more grapefruit, breadyness, plus peppery rye as this warms. Finishes with grapefruit, peppery rye, pine, caramel & woody dryness

MF: Medium bodied, slight carbonation, nice balance

Easy to drink, some rough edges, but a nice rye slanted IPA & one I would buy again if in sixer format (573 characters)

Clear light copper body with an inch of white head and nice spotty lacing... poured into a tulip.

The smell is bready with some light citrus tones.

The hops are grapefruit and orange and it has a pretty strong biscuit malt holding it together with a faint rye finish.

Mouthfeel is clean and crisp with good body.

Overall, I was pretty impressed with my first beer from 4 hands. (384 characters)
