Notes/Commercial Description:
This is one monster of a Brown Ale! We use an obnoxious amount of chocolate malt and roasted barley to give this beer a cask iron backbone. Our oatmeal brown pours a dark mahogany with aromas of dark chocolate and coffee.

Pours a dark brown, almost cola looking. Inch plus frothy head.

Sweet roasted malt, light coffee. Richness.

Very roasted but not charred. Depth from the chocolate malt, leaving that sweet chocolate flavor.

Thin but not too thin. Light enough to make to make it painfully easy to drink.

I am not the biggest brown ale fan because most are dull. This was not dull, quite lovely.

Up from Jacksonville FL and stopped in at the brewery.

A: single finger head on a deep amber body with excellen retention and lacing.

S: oats, roasted barley, hint of espresso and chocolate malts.

T: burnt toast, coffee, oats, slight chocolate malt finish.

M: smooth with medium body and moderate carbonation.

Overall: this is a nicely complex for the style. This is one of the best brews offered here, a must try.

Opaque mohagany body with tan head.

Strong nose of cocoa and nuts with a little char.

Sweet and bitter chocolate flavor and nutty. It tastes good up front but the finish lingers and tastes like cardboard.

Full, smooth mouthfeel with moderate carbonation.

This was a solid bown ale. My only knock is an off putting aftertaste.

On tap at 44 Stone in Columbia, MO.

A - Poured an opaque, dark, dark brown color with a one-finger, light brown head of foam.

S - It smelled roasty with some coffee, chocolate and caramel. There was a piney presence.

T - Good roasty flavor with coffee, flaked oats, dark chocolate and caramel. Some piney hop presence added bitterness.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium-bodied beer with a dry, clean finish.

O - This is a very good oatmeal brown ale. I really am starting to love this style and 4 Hands has nailed it.

Pours a brown color. 1/3 inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and slight lacing. Smells of hops, sweet malt, slight roasted malt, hint of pale malt, hint of chocolate, hint of nut, and slight oatmeal. Fits the style of an American Brown Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of roasted malt, sweet malt, hint of oatmeal, hint of hop, and a hint of chocolate. Overall, great aroma, good body, and blend.

this was the best beer i had at 4 hands. pours a milk chocolatey brown color, quite thick, with a sudsy off white head on top, long retention and sexy lacing. smells like a bowl of oatmeal, melted chocolate chips, and tons of english malts, semisweet and rich. flavor if similarly enticing, tons of cocoa in there, much more than i expected, and an earthy malt profile that is perfectly complimentary to the other flavors. one girl we were with described this as "period beer" because its got chocolate in it, who knows. i loved the mouthfeel, lots and lots of body for a brown ale. the carbonation was just enough. overall this might be one of the best brown ales ive ever had. its got everything you could want, and its so smooth to drink. i would drink this every day if i could, its absolutely outstanding.

Pours a dark mahoganey color with deep amber tones. There is over an inch of light tan head that leaves a ton lace behind.

The nose is made up of hazelnuts, brown sugar and light molasses. There is also a light amount of cocoa.

The flavors are much the same. The nutty flavors are prominent along witb the molasses. The cocoa is a bit stronger than the nose suggested. There is a light bitter hop presence. Undetectable ABV.

The mouthfeel is light and has a dry and crisp finish. Ample carbonation.

Overall, very tasty brown that had a nice flavor profile.

Served on tap at the brewery. Served in a 12 oz pint glass. Poured a mahogany color, produced a nice head and featured excellent lacing. The aroma of this American Brown Ale, consisted of soft oats, fresh baked bread, coffee and nuts. Medium in body, the flavor of this ale featured roasted malt, coffee and nuts. Decent example of the style, overall average. Prost!
