Notes/Commercial Description:
Columbus Tomahawk Zeus is the primary hop variety in War Hammer as well as the inspiration in the name. We use a combination of Pacific Northwest hops to create layers of pungent flavors. A generous malt bill adds biscuit and honey notes while allowing the hops to take center stage. War Hammer pours golden in color with aromas of pineapple, mango, tangerine, resin, and slight earthy notes.

Poured from a 'big bottle' into a pint glass.

A: Pours a nice deep golden color, with about a half inch of head. Nice lacing on the glass. Sticks around the whole pint.

S: Hops and citrus. Faints hints of grains and malts as well as grapefruit, pineapple and mango.

T: For an Imperial IPA, bitter but not overly. Smooth but with a little bite.

M: Well carbonated and fresh. Bitter as it goes down, but smooth. Can't really taste the above average ABV, kinda sneaks up on you.

O: Got this bottle from a friend who swears by 4 Hands beers. Not a huge IPA fan, but this is a solid beer overall. A solid IPA that would be excellent in the Summer. Glad to see STL has a great selection of craft beers.

Good head on the pour and outstanding foam retention. New Copper penny color. Fairly hazy in terms of clarity. Despite the color not a a lot of light gets through. Compelling hop aroma is rather piney. the malt backbone really struggles to keep up on this one. The pine like hop aftertaste is almost pine sol like to the point of being a bit off putting. Mouthfeel is a bit sticky but is normal for the style.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into an imperial pint. Thanks to BA redbird!

This beer pours out a hazy red-amber color with a relatively small head. The aroma is great, it's sticky and dank with plenty of tropical fruits on the aroma. The taste is also fantastic, with sticky tropical hops taking over every bit of this brew. There's also some strong citrus and a bit of grapefruit rind. It's just a delicious hop assault. The malts provide an excellent supporting role, giving the beer some heft without being anywhere near overbearing. The mouthfeel is full and briskly carbonated, and the drinkability is astoundingly good. Seriously, I burned through this whole bomber in about 20 minutes. Ridiculous. Overall, this is a fantastic double IPA. A great surprise out of St. Louis. This is one worth trading for.
