Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: JoEBoBpr on 03-04-2012

Columbus Tomahawk Zeus is the primary hop variety in War Hammer as well as the inspiration in the name. We use a combination of Pacific Northwest hops to create layers of pungent flavors. A generous malt bill adds biscuit and honey notes while allowing the hops to take center stage. War Hammer pours golden in color with aromas of pineapple, mango, tangerine, resin, and slight earthy notes.

Poured from a 'big bottle' into a pint glass.

A: Pours a nice deep golden color, with about a half inch of head. Nice lacing on the glass. Sticks around the whole pint.

S: Hops and citrus. Faints hints of grains and malts as well as grapefruit, pineapple and mango.

T: For an Imperial IPA, bitter but not overly. Smooth but with a little bite.

M: Well carbonated and fresh. Bitter as it goes down, but smooth. Can't really taste the above average ABV, kinda sneaks up on you.

O: Got this bottle from a friend who swears by 4 Hands beers. Not a huge IPA fan, but this is a solid beer overall. A solid IPA that would be excellent in the Summer. Glad to see STL has a great selection of craft beers. (702 characters)

Good head on the pour and outstanding foam retention. New Copper penny color. Fairly hazy in terms of clarity. Despite the color not a a lot of light gets through. Compelling hop aroma is rather piney. the malt backbone really struggles to keep up on this one. The pine like hop aftertaste is almost pine sol like to the point of being a bit off putting. Mouthfeel is a bit sticky but is normal for the style. (409 characters)

The nose on this one is incredible. Super hoppy, promising a nice juicy beer. Unfortunately the taste is too harsh. I really wished the taste followed the nose on this one. (172 characters)

on the nose, very fruity. heavy tangerine, orange, and tropical fruit.

moderate carbonation, moderate viscosity.

Eh. Not sure how old this is, current reviews seem to be within the last couple months. It's pretty malty and boozy. CTZ hops are pretty distinctive, but unfortunately not very present.

Caramel malt taste, boozy and chewy, full bodied. Lingering earthy hop bitterness, also pretty sweet. Tastes more like an imperial red or strong ale.

Dark reddish orange, lots of lacing, slightly hazy.
Aroma is malty and sweet, caramel forward.

Overall I might try again if guaranteed fresh, but won't buy another bottle. (511 characters)
