Style | ABV
Berliner Weissbier |  3.50% ABV

Availability: Summer

Notes/Commercial Description:
The name Prussia originates from Frederick the Great. Frederick was trained to brew this very delicate style of beer and later became the King of Prussia. Our interpretation of the Berliner Weisse style is very traditional. Prussia pours a hazy straw hue with a nice clean tart finish. Enjoy alone or with flavored syrup.

Appearance: Dark yellow, almost orange. It is not really the pale straw color I would expect for a Berliner Weiße. Quickly dissipating head, which settled to no foam, not even lacing. Not visually spritzy at all. Extremely disappointing appearance.
Smell: Lightly citrusy, with a definate undertone of funk... in a good way. I think a bit more carbonation may have helped the smell develop a bit more.
Taste: Light wheat and sour, which yields to a nice citrus flavor. Not overwhelming, quite pleasant.
Mouth-feel: This feels a little heavy for the style. I expected something a bit thinner.
Overall: I really wanted to like this one. Being from St. Louis (home to this brewery) and having lived in Berlin (home to this style), I really felt like this was a perfect beer for me. The beer itself came up a bit short. The taste and smell were decent, but that's the only positive comment I have. I may try this with a bit of Waldmeister syrup, but it is already under carbonated and heavy, so it may be a waste. I do applaud 4 Hands for taking a stab at the style (most breweries are not that bold), but they need to sample a few of the real thing and start over.

Pours a slightly hazed amber with a sliver of beige head. Stays effervescent, near zero head retention & lacing

S: Hay, tartness, slight hints of dirt & that's about it

T: Tartness, hay & dryness up front. Faint golden delicious apple notes as this warms, plus tartness, a little bit of pear too. Finishes dry, tart & fruitty

MF: Light bodied with slight carbonation, slightly wet

Super refreshing & fairly spot on for the style, a bit too clean perhaps

Massive frothy head after the pour does subside after about 60 seconds it almost entirely vanishes. Pale golden straw color and very cloudy. Aroma of pale wheat and pear like aroma. The mouthfeel is fairly carbonated and almost has a soda pop like consistency, but is also fairly brisk and refreshing. Fruity, yet tart and highly carbonated. A summer refresher.

A- Pours a rather un-hazy, pale yellow golden hue in my tall weizen glass. My poor pouring skills on full display as I get a 4 inch head, but realistically, it would have been at least 3 fingers anyway. Good retention and average lacing. Looks to be quite effervescent in the glass.

S- Light, grassy, grainy, and a little bit lemony. A mix between refreshing, very light tartness on the nose and a hint of wheat malt.

T- Starts with a very lightly tart flavor mixed with some spicy wheat flavors. As the drink progresses, the wheat and spices become more prominent. A hint of pepper is detectable. Tartness is somewhat lemony, like in the smell. The end of the drink is rather dry, heavy in wheat and grassy flavors, and very crisp.

M- Highly carbonated and light across the palate. This beer is dead on to the style. A great option for hot summer days like today. Lower alcohol allows repeatable refreshment.

Overall, a very solid, somewhat spicy, American take on a classic European style. Blurs the line between a Berliner and a hefe.
