Received as an extra in a trade and poured into my Duvel tulip.

A - Pours a very nice rich brown hue that is too dark to see through with a nice almost two finger light mocha head that fades slowly to leave a good creamy blanket.

S - Nice aromas of roasted malts, cocoa nibs, milk chocolate. Not too sweet but smells nice and luscious.

T - Nice rich chocolate, milk and creamy and rich. Light roast malts and good bittersweet chocolate. This would probably translate and come across a little bit better if the finish was not so sharp.

M - Mouthfeel is a bit briskly carbonated for the style. I want something smooth and rich, instead this is a bit sharp.

O - Overall this is a tasty chocolate stout. Not too subtle at all this is a great balance of malts and chocolate. With the mouthfeel was not as sharp as it was more of a hindrance than anything.

I poured a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance- Almost black in color with two fingers worth of tan head. Good retention with a large amount of clinging lace.

Smell- Milk chocolate and cocoa aromas with the tiniest hint of roasted malt.

Taste- More of a bittersweet chocolate flavor with touch of cocoa. Mild bitterness at the finish.

Mouthfeel- Medium bodied, smooth and creamy. An average amount of carbonation.

Overall- An enjoyable stout. Good chocolate flavor that is not overly sweet. I would buy this again in a pinch.

Pours a dark black with a tan frothy head that has good initial retention but eventually settles to a nice ring with good lacing. Smell is definitely chocolate, and I could not really pick up any roasted grain or hop aromas. Taste is mainly chocolate with a slight hint of roasted coffee on the back end. This beer is definitely all malt, with no real hop character that I could discern. Carbonation is medium to low, and overall mouthfeel is medium.

Overall, I feel that this is a very good, very smooth stout, that would make an absolutely fantastic dessert beer. I would like to have a bit more roasted grain / coffee taste to compliment the chocolate and lactose, but still a very good beer overall. It would be hard for me to characterize this as a "stout" since it doesn't really have any of the flavors I normally associate with a stout, but 4 Hands Brewing is definitely on my "brewers to watch" list.

A- pours dark brown/black with an obnoxiously large khaki head.
S- milk chocolate, cocoa
T- cocoa, sweet, milk chocolate, chocolate gets more bitter towards the finish
M- thin body and high carbonation
O- a good representation of the style with copious amounts of chocolate. It could stand to have a smoother mouthfeel but tasty none the less.

A- Pours pitch black and fairly thick. Medium, 2.5 finger head that is tan in color and retains very well. Lacing is also very good. Looks like a stout should in the glass.

S- Big notes of chocolate that are both sweet and slightly bitter hit the nose first. Somewhat dry chocolate scent towards the end of the drink. Chocolate is the only flavor coming through in this one.

T- Basically the taste version of the smell here. Big chocolate starts it out. Somewhat sweet before turning towards a little more bitter chocolate flavor. There is a small appearance of the classic dark malt flavors towards the end of the drink. Lingering chocolate flavor on the tongue after the drink.

M- Not as thick as an imperial, but still creamy because of the chocolate flavors. Rather high in carbonation gives it an odd feel combined with the creaminess. Not a bad overall feel. Lower alcohol level makes this one easier to drink than most imperials, as well as other stouts.

Overall, this is one of the better chocolate stouts out there. Goose Island's Big John is the only other chocolate stout that is comparable to this one.
