Pours a dark woody brown, near black, with a huge tall head. Poured into a Perennial glass, the head is just as tall as the body.

Smells like chocolate brownie batter, milk, somewhat bitter coffee. Smells wonderful.

Tastes more bitter, more of the coffee flavor. Some chocolate and milk again, but much less rich than the nose suggested. Still very good.

As others have noted, even though there's plenty of carbonation and this is very frothy, the mouthfeel is slightly thin. It's still good, just not what your expect for such an otherwise dark and rich beer

This is a really nice chocolate milk stout. I'm glad so many breweries are experimenting with this style now as I really love it.

Tasted 16 February 2013.

Pours black in the glass, deep brown at the edges. Half-finger of pale tan head, relaxes to a thin ring around the surface, and a touch of lacing.

Smell is a light milk stout topped with woody cacao and coffee. It's thin; fortunately the lactose adds some body and smoothness. A touch of smoke leaks in from the dark roast. But mostly it's bottom and top, and hollow in the middle. Lacking body, oomph, robustness.

Taste is thin, a bit flat, and dominated by a char bitterness and wood. I get very little milk or chocolate, which is disappointing. This beer isn't terrible, but I'd have a hard time calling it good.

Mouthfeel is fine. It's a low-ABV stout, so it's not super surprising that it's thin. But the milky feel isn't there, and it's even thinner than I'd expect. Carbonation is fine.

Nothing impressive about this one. As I said above, it's not terrible. But I'm not loving it.

A: Poured into pint glass, hazy brown head with large bubbles finished off into a cracker-thin brown head. Body - dark, but when put up to the light you can see it is a dark, dark, tobacco brow.

S: Dark Chocolate right off the bat. Notes of coffee, and toasted malts faint scent of dried apricots/cherries.

T: Chocolate cover cherries, with a dry hop finish. Interesting

M: Perhaps the weakest part of the experience. Thin, light, effervescent with not what I was expecting. I will be honest disappointed. I wanted that thick, milky experience - this beer just did't have it.

O: Eh, I wanted to like this beer. But in the end it taste like a brown ale with cacao nibs added. I wouldn't recommend this, especially four the price.

Pours a lighter brown shade, huge billowing tan head of foam, fairly long lasting retention also. Halo of delicate lacing in the glass, looks pretty nice.

Milk chocolate aromas, some husky black malt underneath that.

Very light bodied, authentic chocolate flavors mingle with roasted malt and coffee flavors. Initial natural sweetness and lingering dry roast, clean feel. Deceptively simple, though more than the sum of its parts.

Thanks to Mark & Kathy for this one!

A - Opaque, jet-black color with a one-finger,light brown head of foam. It left sticky rings of lace on the glass.

S - It smelled of sweet milk chocolate and cocoa nibs.

T - Good chocolate flavor like cocoa nibs, some roastiness and just a touch of bitterness.

M - It was crisp and smooth. A medium bodied ale with a clean finish.

O -This is a really delicious beer. I can't say enough about how much every 4 Hands beer impressed me. Keep 'em coming.

pours cola brown, little bit of cocoa cream head.

lots of bitter chocolate on the nose. roasted malt and slight coffee.

although a milk stout, i picked up very little sweetness. heavy on bitter chocolate and roasted malt. not overly complex and slightly one dimensional but that is not really a bad thing. would have liked a bit more sweetness.

light body, moderate carbonation.

decent overall, good stout, easy to drink.

4 Hands Brewing Co. Chocolate Milk Stout

Poured into a tulip glass form a fresh growler.

Pours a very dark, near night, brown with some mahogany hues. There is a nice 1 inch head that is slightly chunky and with a light tan color. Very sticky head and the viscosity seems low. (4.0)

There is an aroma of deep dark chocolate notes; bitter dark cocoa notes are present mixed in with some slightly grassy hop notes. There is also a nice dark roast to the brew with some slight coffee notes. There is some slight caramel sweetness mixed in with the nice cocoa sweetness and deep bitterness. (3.5)

Flavor starts off similar to the nose but it’s a bit thicker and richer. Nice notes of dark cocoa nibs with some nice rich fudge notes and some slight milk chocolate sweetness. There is some nice roast to the brew as well. Some mild coffee mixed in with the slight dark cocoa bitterness. There is some lactose notes with the brew that really balance the roast in the middle of the brew but the cocoa notes really shines through at the end. Very nicely done. Body is medium and rich with a nice carbonation and a slightly grassy and bitter finish. (4.5)(4.0)

Overall. Very good brew IMO. There is a nice Milk Stout backbone to this brew. Dark malt sweetness and richness with some coffee comes in. Then the nice coca nib notes are present. Very well crafted and balanced yet extremely flavorful. (4.0)
