On tap at Growlers Pour House in Charlotte.
Pours clear red-amber with a full, creamy and durable bone-colored head that leaves fine lacing patterns.
Smells rather ordinary, with no sign of the jalapenos. You will definitely taste the hot peppers in this beer, although Birdsong used enough restraint that I would not call this challenging to drink. There is some mild heat in the mouth which, I think, is why the ABV seems higher than 5.5%. Given the chilies, this pale ale would probably benefit from more hops so that they aren't so completely masked.

O: A chili beer with little else going one, but that’s not always a bad thing. Worked well with a sandwich and fries.

Serving type: on-tap

Poured on tap and served in a shaker pint, the beer is a hazy, yellow-wheat coloring, with a fluffy, foamy, white head. Nose of subtle jalapeno heat on a toasty and caramel backbone. The more you smell, the more pepper you get. Flavors are caramel forward, with an underlying hops bitterness noted moments before the smoky and spicy jalapeno character begins to build. You get a pretty robust jalapeno character, but it fades reasonably quickly, sparing the palate and keeping the beer drinkable. Smooth and light, with a low, slow heat in the background. The finish is a sweet and spicy blend linger on a smooth, light fade. Unique and drinkable.
