On tap at Duckworths on Park Rd in Charlotte, NC

Strong scents of coffee and cinnamon. Nice body with decent lacing. Not much head. You taste some sweetness with some chile spice at the back end. Different combination. Good amount of carbonation. Silky on the tongue.

Overall, this isn't bad. Enjoyed it, but I think one pint a night is enough. Not something that I would order on a regular basis

@ Birdsong

Black with a small surface covering of off-white foam. Malty aroma that features smooth, well-integrated cinnamon spice and coffee roast…not too aggressive with either. Flavor follows the same blueprint, a nice blend of chocolaty malt and spices leading into some sweetened coffee and a hint of black malt char right at the finish. An easy drinking version of the increasingly popular Mexican chocolate themed stout. Not much, if anything, from the peppers, so spiciness isn’t an issue. Nice.

Had on tap at Duckworth's. An interesting beer for which the style - "Chile Beer" - doesn't really seem to fit. It really is a solid stout with a bit of spice at the back end. Very dark brown with little head and minimal lacing left behind. The smell is mostly spices, nothing really hot, but kind of a cinnamon/all spice smell. The taste is smooth and light coffee with a little more of the cinnamon effect. Then a touch of heat at the end; just enough to makes things interesting. The mouthfeel on this one is the best I've experienced from Birdsong - a solid stout body with a creamy and smooth finish.

Overall this beer adds up to more than the sum of its parts. Beer synergy I guess. Very happy with this beer as part of the Charlotte beer offering.

Poured on-tap at the brewery and served in a shaker pint, the beer is a brown to black coloring, with a light, foamy, cream colored head. Nose of coffee roast, bitter baker's chocolate, and subtle cream. Flavors are heavily roasted coffee, with a subtle cocoa overlay. Dry, light body, with a coffee bitter aftertaste. Dry finish. Very nice.
