4/25….On tap. Timermans strawberry lambic. Fruity nose, berries. Earthy strawberry taste. Slight tart. Light bodied. Good, but hardly remarkable. Simple lambic. 375 425 375 35 375

330 mL bottle from the LCBO; best before Mar 26 2024 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a foggy, translucent pinkish-red colour, producing nearly two fingers of fluffy, foamy white head that lasts for more than five minutes. In the aftermath, a half-inch curtain of lace has been draped onto the glass, with a frothy, creamy collar and sudsy cap living on - looks great so far. It smells like real strawberries - juicy and a little jammy, with wheaty, bready pale malts, bubblegum sugar and just a hint of funk.

Lacking in depth, but it definitely delivers on the strawberry. Sweet flavours of strawberry jam and fresh strawberry dominate the profile, aided by hints of wheaty malts and faint acidity/funk towards the back end; more strawberry into the aftertaste. Light-medium in body, with gentle carbonation that rolls along the tongue, gently tickling as it goes; feels soft, smooth and juicy, with good heft for only 4%. Very drinkable - I could go for a second glass, if the weather were a little more oppressively hot.

Final Grade: 3.71, a B grade. Timmermans' Strawberry Lambicus is hardly the pinnacle of fruit lambics, but it does have a couple of things going for it. First and foremost is the strawberry itself: not only does this taste juicy and authentic, it's also novel, with quality strawberry beers being difficult to find around here. Its sweet, fruity flavour profile will be easy for even non-beer drinkers to appreciate, making it a good introductory lambic. On the other hand, there's very little in the way of sourness and/or funk here... so even though this is technically a lambic, the experience is not much different from that of a really good strawberry fruit beer. Worth trying at least once.

Not quite as muscular as I expected, a little bit timid for a lambic. Tasty enough in a casual sort of way. More fruit juicy than beery.

330 ml bottle served cold into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for around $3.45 CDN.

Appearance - strawberry colored with a nice shade of red, very clear and a small cap of off-white head that dissipates quickly.

Smell - Strawberries with an artificial sweetness. Not much else.

Taste - More strawberries and yes this brew is very sweet. Again there's a sense that the strawberries have been sweetened or brightened with something. It's more subtle here than on the nose, so this is still pretty tasty.

Mouthfeel - Medium-light bodied with a fair amount of carbonation to start. Flavor lasts for a while and clings to the mouth so it feels every so slightly sticky.

Overall - If sweet fruit beers are your thing, this is a nice example that is only a bit overdone. If not, this is an interesting fruit beer but pretty forgettable. Quite similar to Fruli for another frame of reference.

Poured a 330ml bottle into a tulip. a hazy dark red with a two finger fine pinkish head which sticks around to the end. lots af decent lacing.
Interesting. Faint sour fruit. Some malt.
Definitely strawberry up front. Sweet. A bit simple but no real faults. Almost imperceptible tart finish.
light body and carbonation.
Light and refreshing. great if you like strawberries.

A 330ml can with a best before date of 25th December 2019. Poured into a 3 Fonteinen stemmed glass.

Appearance: It poured a slightly hazy reddish pink orange colour with a one finger white head that dissipated fairly quickly and left only sparse lacing.

Aroma: Strawberry hard candy.

Taste: Sweet, strawberry hard candy, strawberry, syrupy, jammy, strawberry soda, too sweet.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied, moderate carbonation, too sweet.

Overall: Sweetened Lambic with sugar added, which is not my thing, as its generally too sweet for my palate. But the strawberry aroma much resembles that of strawberry hard candies which I love. Taste as I said was too sweet, but the strawberry flavours were ok. Very uncomplex for a fruit lambic.

September 19th, 2015 - Like so many others, this lambic is just too sweet. Though blushing with that ripe peach color, that is the best quality of this beer. The nose is clean and fresh, and offers some strawberry and watermelon notes. But the flavor is very thin. There are notes of sweet medicine in there, but the overall impression is one of a artificial sugar strawberry DumDum lollipop.

Bottled 11/5/16; drank 6/14/19 @ the Yarchives.

See-through ruby red appearance.

A rough pour yielded a nice white head; strong, frothy lace.

Strawberry soda & faint wheat notes in the nose.

Medium mouthfeel.

Strawberry soda & faint honeyed wheat flavors.

Basically a more balanced strawberry soda; pleasant, but far from challenging. On a hot day, I would love to have another...but not really worth seeking out.

Brouwerij Timmermans-John Martin N.V. "Timmermans Strawberry Lambicus"
11.2 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, "Produced on: 25/04/18 11:06"

Notes via stream of consciousness: The beer is hazy, and pinkish-amber in color beneath a finger-thick head of white foam. It's clearly effervescent given the number of bubbles that can be seen racing upwards within the glass. The aroma expresses fresh strawberry, malt, and sugar. The flavor follows with a strawberry that's authentic, and yet also bolstered by sugar. There's only a minor acidity to it. Once the initial strawberry blast has passed you get more of the grainy malt and a bit of an apricot note, and then that reverts back to the sweetened strawberry in the finish, only to be followed again by the soft apricot. It's sweet but it's not cloying. I can imagine this as a dessert beer in itself, but also as a beer that you could drink any time. I'm imagining it at lunch with some crusty bread and cheese, grapes, sliced apple, and perhaps even a sausage. In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently effervescent across the tongue. While I'd like some more "lambic" out of it, acidity and funkiness, I understand that that's not really what this is about and I accept that. The fresh and authentic strawberry flavor is perhaps the best I've found in a beer like this, and it's quite charming.
