A lambic beer from the john martins harvest; its taste like ordinary cherry juice, with alcohol, not popular in my country, its smell fruity and very aromatic; taste plane, heavy, and round; good for christmas dinner; drink direct from the bottle; 67% recommended.

Pours a dark red, verging on purple. Big pink head with good retention. Thick lacings all the way down.

Sickly sweet aroma of sugar and cherries.

Sweet up front. Bearable at first with just a touch of tartness. But the tartness fades away quickly and the finish gets a bit nasty with some cloying sweetness.

I've had some sweetened krieks before that I can appreciate them for what they are, but not this. A real mess of a beer. The point of sweetening labics up is to appeal to the masses, I can't imagine who this appeals to.

11.2 fl oz bottle served in a snifter, reviewed live:

A - Pours a dark, transparent ruby red color with a thin, one finger, pink head. Retention is poor.

S - Dark cherries, black currant, cherry extract syrup and mild yeasty/bacterial funk. Seems a bit imbalanced and sweet, but interesting all together.

T - Opens heavy on the tart cherry and yeast. It's entirely too sweet through the finish, where the tart sourness from the yeast finally come through. It's simple and imbalanced.

M - Smooth, wet and almost syrupy. Doesn't work with the beer to well, but it's to be expected.

D - Suffers from simplicity and imbalance. Not really a good offering for the style, or beer at all.

A= Pours nice red in color with a pinkish head some slight lacing.

S= Kind of has a wine smell to it a little cherry smells kind of sour.

T= The taste is really lacking. Really isn't one can't pick up on to much kind of watered down it taste like colored water with a little bit of not really any cherry flavor really weak.

M= Nice carbonation, light in body.

D= Drinkability would be low for me at $4.50 a bottle this beer is basically useless.

33cl bottle brought from Scotland by my brother. Pours a cranberry juice color with a finger of light pinkish head. Nose is all sweet candy cherry, very artificial. No sourness or funk. Taste echoes this, faintest sourness in the finish, syrupy thick mouthfeel, cherry cola like fruitiness. Not a great lambic but not undrinkable.

Poured from 11.2oz bottle.

A- Pours a cherry red color...surprising! Half finger pinkish head shows low retention and is gone in a matter of seconds. Web style lacing is light but all over the glass while drinking.

S- Sweet artifical cherry flavor upfront. Not really picking up anything that is sour just a sweetness. A hint of malt but mostly just sugary sweet cherries.

T- A huge sweet cherry flavor on the upfront of this beer with a hint of light soured cherry to it. In the middle of the beer there is a light metallic hint which actually adds the only real other flavor to this beer besides cherries. The ending of the beer is not only sweet alcohol but also sickly sweet cherry.

M- Medium heavy mouthfeel. Carbonation was actually quite well for this beer. Cherry dominated the entire palate. I mean this shit stuck to your teeth and lips with cherry resin. Aftertaste was the same super sweet cherry with hints of sweet alcohol that fade faster than the overall cherry flavor. Blended once again to the correct style just overly sweet cherry. Metallic off flavors were light with this beer but the biggest part of off flavors came from the sickly sweet cherry. Light alcohol drying on the palate.

D- This beer was too sweet for me to actually enjoy it and take it seriously. The ABV is low so I think a lot of people who don't drink beers will enjoy this one. A syrupy mess at times and at other times just too damn sweet. I'll pass on this one for future purchases.

Pours red cranberry juice with sode pop head of 1 cm. Looks like sparkling juice.

Aroma is cherry cough syrup, amaretto, and my mother's German cherry pudding. Hard to detect past that.

Mouthfeel is like slightly flat pop.

Taste is bitter cherry. Strangely medicinal, one dimensional, and not what I expect form a kriek at all. Not working for me.

Hazy brownish-red appearance. Pours with a finger of pink foam that retains well.

Nose is intensely sweet, bordering on cough syrup. It's pretty much one-dimensional, and that dimension is sweet cherry. There's nothing in the way of funk or sourness.

The palate, likewise is pretty much straight sweet cherry juice with the slightest trace of tartness in the finish. It's an extremely sweet beer from start to finish, with no depth to speak of. The body is on the thin side and there's a strange void of flavor after the initial blast of sugar. Not exactly offensive, but nothing I'd care to drink again.

The fluid is clear deep red, with a hint of brown, the head bleak pink leaving good lacing.

The smell is very sweet and definitely cherry, more like cherry soda than anything else.

The taste is also cherry dominated and extremely sweet, but with some refreshment from the lambic sourness. also bitter notes - probably from cherry seeds.

A strong carbonation enhances the soda experience.

In all a bit to much soda for me, needs to be moderated with some strong coffee and a small biscuit...

Reviewed from session notes.

A. Clear deep ruby color with a thirty second two finger pink head that leaves behind respectable lacing.

S. Acidic black cherry soda aroma with just the tiniest amount of soured smell hiding in the background. I was hoping for something with a bit more sour power.

T. The flavor is also far too close to sweet black cherry soda, with none of the funk nor any of the sourness promised (very half-heartedly promised, mind you) by the nose. As it warms up it also develops a secondary grape soda ‘harmony’ flavor…

M. Light, fizzy, highly carbonated soda water. There is not really any beer here, just another pseudo wine cooler. And most certainly not anything lambic, either.

Produced 25/31/11
(Served in a chalice)

A- The deep auburn body is slightly dense with a thin white film that is popping away but supported by a strong carbonation of microbubbles.

S- The aroma of cherry cough syrup has a dark bing cherry aroma to it and as it opens the aroma gets less offensively sweet.

T- The flavor is better than the nose with dark bing cherries being mellow with the sweetness cut back and the fizz helping to cut the finish. The cherry sweetness coats the tongue after each sip.

M- The medium-light mouthfeel has a scrubbing fizz that helps cut down the sweetness but no alcohol heat to help.

O- This reminds me of a good ice cream flavor there is a bit of sweetness but some depth to the cherry flavor makes it taste like real dark bing cherries. The fizz helps out in cutting down the sweetness but it still coats the tongue.

This brew is pretty popular in cans in belgium (along with belle-vue). This stuff has the aromas of artificial cherries and sugar. The taste is basically the same. This is like alcoholic cherry juice. The mouthfeel is thin and almost non-existant. The drinkability is OK, and for the price (75 euro cents a can) one can't complain. The Belgian street-drunks favorite kriek!

Appearance: Dark red color with a white, one finger head. Moderate lacing.

Smell: Cherries dominate the aroma but it is pretty one-dimensional.

Taste: This limbic tastes good but, like the smell, it is rather one-dimensional. No malt or hops presence to be found.

Mouthfeel: Good carbonation and a nice body. No complaints but not great.

Overall: Fun to drink but not complex enough to earn anything above an average rating.

150th review! Well let's try something special - a lambic Kriek (cherry). Lambic beers are an interesting lot as they are brewed with wild yeasts and bacteria that float around in Belgian beer cellars. The environment has to be just right to avoid nasty contamination from unwanted bacteria, in fact the yeast that is used in the brewing of lambics 'Brettanomyces' is actually a spoilage yeast in the wine industry.

Poured from a 330ml bottle into a St Feuillien chalice.

A: The body is a slight cloudy pomegranate with minimal white with a pink hue lacing.

S: Dark candied morello cherries hit the nose straight away, followed by vanilla sugar. There's no denying the sweetness is cloying in the aroma, let's hope for something more in the first taste.

T: Fairly tart straight off the bat. There's an aftertaste of sweet cherries and a mineral water taste overall, but otherwise that is it. Not overly complex like a Trappist brew, however it's nice for a change of pace (if you're looking for one).

M: Little bit watery with the body and with a typical dense Belgian fizz to the carbonation as well.

D: This gets more cough medicine taste as the glass empties. Not really impressed at all, I tried one other Kriek before (which was the Belle Vue Kriek) and it was better... much better as I recall. Give it a try if you're new to the world of lambics and you want a cheap Kriek, but otherwise I would avoid this one.

Food match: Cherry pie... couldn't help myself.

Got this has a gift from my mom for the holiday, chilled it a bit and poured her and myself a glass yesterday afternoon. The beer poured out as a nice looking reddish purple color with a very soft pinkish white head on top. The retention and lacing were very impressive on this. The smell is of medicinal cherry... not the greatest aroma of cherries I've come across in a beer in my opinion. The taste is also a bit on the medicinal side and is a bit on the sweet side as well. It definitely tastes like cherries though. The mouthfeel of the beer is thin, highly carbonated and a little on the cloying side. Overall it's doesn't taste natural to me, it's a bit on the artificial side which is common in most cases with Timmermans. It's a decent brew but not one I would ask for or purchase again.

Pours a very deep ruby color. No head. Lots of carbonation bubbles rising.

Nose is a bit salty. Barnyard funk. Sweat. Maybe a hint of fruit but not much.

Taste is tart and funky. Light cherry taste towards the middle and end. Super refreshing.

High carbonation. Thin but not watery.

Would drink again but nothing to seek out. Was hoping for a bigger cherry flavor here.

Appearance - 4.0
Poured two fingers of solid, flesh coloured head that sits over a deep red-brown body that is slightly hazy.

Smell - 3.5
Quite typical aroma of a modern, sweeter kriek. A musky aroma of cherry syrup with a little lambic sourness.

Taste - 3.0
The sourness of lambic is certainly there, especially when ice cold. However, it is not quite enough to balance the sweet cherry syrup flavour.

Mouthfeel - 3.5
Feels quite thick and sticky in the mouth with a slight puckering sourness and fine carbonation.

Drinkability - 3.0
Too sweet for ultimate drinkability, but it was easy to drink one.

OVERALL - 3.35
Decent, but to me this is just another too sweet lambic based beer that could have been good.

A: The beer is hazy dark rosé in color and has a light to moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high dense pink head that died down but never completely faded away, leaving a large patch of bubbles on the surface, a collar around the edge and lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: There are moderately strong aromas of cherries in the nose—it's not the sweet type of smell you would expect from a lambic but instead smells like a cherry cough drop.
T: The overall taste follows the smell and has an interesting resemblance to the flavors you get when sucking on a cherry cough drop. No sweetness is detectable.
M: It feels light-bodied and slightly tart on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink, but the cough drop flavors are somewhat detracting and remind me of having a cold.

Pink in colour with a medium sized pink head and good lacing. Medicinal, cherry aroma. Tastes of cherries, white sugar and berries. The flavour is also oaky. Sourness, complexity and malt character seem to be lacking. Light bodied and bubbly. I was expecting this to be better than Belle-Vue Kriek but found it to be too sweet.

Aromas of cherries, cherry methol throat lozenge, cough syrup.

Taste is a sour blast of cough syrup, cherries, sherbert, a little hop bitterness, very complex, but not in a good way(!)

A: Pours a slightly hazy very dark rose to ruby in color with moderate amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a finger tall fizzy pinkish white head that reduces to medium sized patch of large bubbles and a very thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer with a slightly thicker ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: The smell of this beer is both sweet yet tart with a heavy dosage of cherries - slightly medicinal.

T: There is a light amount of cherry sweetness upfront but the dominant flavor is that of slightly tart yet medicinal cherry.

M: Light bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation. Very slightly prickly from the acidity.

O: Slightly too medicinal in flavor to be really enjoyable or easy to drink for me. Not the best example of a cherry lambic but certainly not the worst.

Timmermans Kriek
2011 bottle , lists ABV at 4.0%

LOOK: Pours a deep pinkish red, ok clarity, short lived head that recedes to a ring around the edges.

SMELL: Sweet cherry syrup, a hint of musty yeast. Cherry fruit snacks.

TASTE: Mainly sweet, mildly sour ale with cherry flavoring. Has small notes of citrus and very lightly bitter, finishes sweet and sour and a bit like cherry pie filling. Just sour enough to add that dimension to the beer.

FEEL: Light bodied, spritzy carbonation, not really dry at all. Some fruit flavor stays in the finish.

OVERALL: A semi-sweet massly accessible brew from Timmermans. It's sour, but not extremely so, which is what separates the cream from the crop. Average.
