Beautiful reddish golden amber color in the New Belgium snifter. Some foam to begin, but a little carbonation-challenged. Fairly tangy on the tongue with a light body. Brewer says this is the Pale Ale with marionberries plus chestnuts and buckwheat. Hops are Newport for bittering with Cascade and Meridian for flavoring.

The fruit flavor and aromas are quite nice, and there is some sweetness from-- well, let's say chestnuts. It is a rather sweet and nutty taste. The bitterness is on the astringent side, and I don't taste the aromatic hops. Another surprisingly drinkable curiosity from Harvester, though the aftertaste is that nasty medicinal note. If you're going to drink gluten free, this brewery seems to be the only one making anything that is both interesting and palatable. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Market of Choice on 29th in Eugene.

Bought this at a bottle shop on my roadtrip to Vermont and Maine this summer. looked in

A- Body is a murky dark pinkish purple hue. There was a slight explosion when I opened the bottle. with pink/purple bubbles everywhere like an ugly new years eve champagne incident.

S- Slightly tart berry, grain, malt, a hint of chestnut

T- Chestnut and berry comes through mildly in the initial flavor. The finish is slightly tart with a lot of berry and a hint of sweetness. Left to linger is an astringent effervescence-similar to that in alka seltzer.

F- Very high, bubbly carbonation. Light to medium weight body with a chalky type astringency.

O- Overall this beer is okay. The carbonation is a real bummer. I've never had marionberry before but it seems interesting. There is some promise with the nose and the flavors upfront but its squandered by a seltzer-like bitterness.
