Closer to darker amber than brown. Clear. Moderate head. Lots of streaks for lace.

Quite hoppy for the style. Like fresh crushed hop cones. Not much from the malt.

Like the smell, it's very hoppy. The body is relatively thin (like the style) with a higher carbonation. The malt is well hidden as is the alcohol except a very minor presence late in the aftertaste.

Look is medium brown with ruby tinges. About a thumb and a half of head, that breaks fairly quickly and leaving a cap and collar that is short lived as well.

Smell is predominantly hop forward, tropical led and then you get the typical nutty scent of a brown. There are also sweet notes to the nose.

Taste is quite nice, hop forward like the nose, and then some sweet and nutty malts coming in. The overall taste is gives a nice balance of hops and those typical brown ale components. A very nice tasting beer.

Feel is medium in weight with average carbonation. There is a creaminess to the feel that adds to the enjoyment. Nice hop finish.

Well, it took me a while to get a hold of this one, but it was well worth the wait. A fine example of an American Brown, and I would certainly have more of this, if I could get my hands on it.

Draft at The Hangar, Amherst, MA.

A- Light brown body from the draft to a pint glass. A foamy cap ascends to a cm high with fairly good retention. Wide belt leaves a sheet of lace that is followed by webs below.

S- General tropical and fruity hops joined by toasted nutty malts, brown sugar, bready cereal grains and toffee. Malty but doesn't hint at sweetness.

T- The hops open up quite a bit with peach, mango and stone fruits complimenting the brown ale somewhat malty base. Notes of dank weed, passionfruit, pineapple, tangerine, melon and slight bubble gum. The brown malts give toast, nutty and slight cocoa hints.

MF- Smooth and creamy medium body. The carbonation level is on the high side and it ends with a smooth dank herbal bitterness.

A great way to combine the Brown Ale style with a hefty dose of hops. Some of the freshest and most distinct stone fruit flavors I have ever found in a darker beer.

Murky, citrusy, subtlety sweet. Pint poured at the Salty Pig. Gotta say right off the bat - this is one of the uglier beers I've encountered, right down there with Deciduous from Trillium. Both are super-hopped browns so maybe this is just how it goes. Looks like watered down iced coffee - murky, muddy, brown - with a thin head. From there, though, the beer shines. Citrus, roasted malt, sweet coffee and herbal tea on the nose. Taste is citrus (papaya, tangerine) and pine on top of a slightly sweet iced coffee-base. Feels light on the palate which is surprising considering the big ABV. No heat or bitterness. Nice and smooth. Don't judge this book by its cover.

The appearance was a cloudy to murky/muddy brown color with a thin cap of a little white foamy head that stiffened and slid off at a gentle pace. Not much lace.
The aroma had an absolutely wonderful blend of sweet to bitter grassy hops over top of a nice semi-smooth caramel/toffee malt base. Fine level of nuttiness to soften the aroma ever so slightly.
The flavor blended finely from the hops to the malts to glide nice and smooth on into the aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied, maybe a hair under with a pretty nice sessionability about it. Didn't seem like 8% to me, but that didn't bother me.
Overall, since I'm a fan of brown ales and even the hoppy ones, I loved this one and thought it was legit and a half! Looking forward to more growlers of this guy!
