Fiddlehead Brewing Company
Vermont, United States | website

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.20%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
This medium bodied American style IPA has an alluring golden glow and beautifully blends three strains of hops. While strong citrus notes ambush your taste buds halfway through the palate, the beer finishes very crisp and dry.

Bright yellow brew lights up brilliantly with a fluffy white head on top. Aroma of lemons and assorted citrus fruit, not much malt on the nose.

Flavor dominated by lemon rind with a medium level of hop bitterness. Rough edge of the bittering hops lends some dimension to this citrus-centric brew. Grapefruit makes an appearance as well, bitterness tingles the taste buds.

Cleans up nicely and finishes with a gentle citrus aftertaste. I would say this beer was a bit one dimensional but I don't think you can go wring with a properly bittered IPA that is drenched in citrus flavor. I caught a hint of dry cracker malt in there somewhere but this one had Lemon Party written all over it.

On draft, 16 oz pour into shaker pint.

A= Hazy, yellow, the head appears foamy and off white, big bubbles that settle to ring around glass. Lacing rings the glass creating line for each sip.

S= Earthy, floral, some citrus rind and zest, a bit of dankness.

T= Hop dankness, citrus, some tropical notes, bread, toasty malts.

M= Moderate carbonation, medium body.

O= This beer has improved greatly over time, a very good and easy drinking IPA. Flavors are clean and refined but still got that hoppy dank IPA goodness.

One of my favorite beers. The citrusy aroma is followed by a bitter starting taste, that transitions into a citrusy burst of tropical flavors to balance the brew. It goes down easy and is great after a day of skiing or hiking in the Green Mountain State.

Served on tap in a pint glass.

Appearance: Orange with a haze. Thin white head and some lacing on the glass.

Smell: Citrus and pine.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth medium bodied. Taste of bitter hops and pine with hints of citrus.

Overall. This was an ok IPA. I would have it again.

First Growler sold, poured into a tulip - thanks to diffidentbastard for picking this up to open on NYE 2011!

Pours a slightly hazy dark amber with a small off-white head with minimal lacing. Nose is hoppy, piney and a bit earthy.

Taste is eerily reminiscent of Heady Topper, a bit less dank but chewy and bitter while still being very drinkable. The Mouthfeel is full and clean with a small bitter bite on the finish.

Overall a really solid start for another new VT brewery!

Had on tap at Doc Ponds in Stowe on Sunday, 9/27. Pours a nice amber copper color with some haze, decent head that leaves lacing. Nice hoppy aroma on this one, resinous but with a backend of some stone fruit. Flavor follows the nose, it has a decent sweetness to it along with a fairly robust hop note. Very "east coast meets west coast". Overall a bit too bitter for the flavors that come out and the body is heavier than expected. A solid IPA, though, wish I had a change to try Second Fiddle.
