Per the bartender: 13 kegs brewed 11/13 and 12 aged in Jack Daniel kegs for three months and then each keg dry-hopped with a different hop variety (my sample being Mosaic) in a stainless steel keg. One portion of the initial beer was too large for the whiskey barrel, so it was aged only in a stainless kegs with Fuggle hops.
Turbid reddish-orange body spotting a thin head; rings of lacing down the tulip glass. Malty nose with strong notes apricot and figs; toffee and wisps of vanilla. Big caramel and juicy orange flavor; twinge of bourbon tones; well-hidden yet still perceptible alcohol notes. Rich and viscous body; heavy and sweet.
This is one very approachable strong ale. The big ABV lingers nicely in the background while letting the beer's malts, hop(s), and barrel-aging influences make the all-important taste statement for this style. Very malty with a lip-smacking Mosaic hop citrus fruitiness and just enough bitterness to knock the sweetness level down to nicely balanced level. Topnotch!!!
