Had on tap at Phantom Canyon's restaurant in Colorado Springs 4-20-12, listed as a Rye Lager on the menu

A- Very dark amber with a moderate amount of brown head and sticky lacing

S- Really not too much to speak of unfortunately, some light malt

T- Slightly sweet malt to begin, lots of dark roasted flavor, rising dry hop bitterness throughout, dark and dry finish

M- Lightly carbonated, moderate in body, clean and slightly dry aftertaste

O- I thought this was an interesting offering, and it was enjoyable throughout the pint, I just wish I got more of an aroma to add to the complexity of the beer. I wouldn't mind having another the next time I stop in.

The glass came with a dark brown body and a thin but steady head. A bit of lacing appeared down the glass as the beer disappeared.

Brown sugar, cinammon, and graham cracker caught my nose.

Taste produced roasted grains, medium roast coffee, and a tad bit of bitter-sweet chocolate. A nice mixture of rye and hop spiciness permeated the grains. The finish was a fine joint presence of bitter hops and semi-sweet malt notes.

The body was pleasingly light-to-medium in character. Finished clean.

Overall, a very interesting lager. Very flavorable and easy drinking. A nice combination of ingredients creating a most enjoyable complexity in taste and aroma. Different from most black lagers; more like a lager/brown ale/porter mix. I hope to see this one again after this run...
