Brewed in honor of 1st Lt. Harry K. Mellinger, a B-24 bombardier with the 8th AAF, 491st Bombardment Group (the Ringmasters) and awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross....yeast for the beer is from Ethal Abbey, Bavaria (above info taken from the bartender's beer notes)

The beer came in a snifter and looked a dark, ruby red with a thin head. The aroma was spicy (rye?) with some malt background. Spicy flavor with a pronounced bitterness and evident alcohol heat. Medium body with a dry finish; biting feel overall.

A drinkable beer but a little rough around the edges. In many ways, it tasted more like a holiday ale or winter warmer than a doppelbock.
