Track 7 Brewing Co. was admittedly an odd West Coast brewery for one very conspicuous omission in its beer line-up when its doors first opened – there was no IPA to be found. After several months of hearing requests (and even pleas) to add an IPA to our line-up, we released the Panic IPA in August 2012.
Panic IPA is heavily hopped with modern American hop royalty, featuring: Amarillo, Centennial, Crystal and Simcoe flavor and aroma hop additions. The result is an IPA that includes subtle citrus characteristics and not-so-subtle stone fruit notes as well. After several special releases, we have fully committed to Panic IPA as one of our regular releases. If you haven’t had a chance to enjoy a pint or two of this amazing beer, head down to Track 7 and give it a try. Panic optional.

taster at brewery. Nice citrusy IPA, murky yellow pour. Lots of fine lacing. Grapefruit aroma, more citrus follows in taste. Very drinkable, very quenching.

Pours a slight hazed golden color with a white head. Smell is fruity and hoppy . taste has citrus/grapefruit with melon and lemon/lime spritzes. A soft mouth feel with with hoppy fruity crispness , light bitterness .

650 ml bottle, in Sacramento. Golden colour, white head. Typical well hopped West Coast IPA in both aroma and flavour, with notes of pine and citrus, but still quite harmonious and refreshing, not too extreme. Could easily be one of my regular beers.

Awesome spin on WIPA. uncharacteristicly light mouthfeel is welcome by me. I'd almost call this a poundable full strength IPA which is also welcome. I could drink 6 of these for a big smile drunk without feeling too heavy. Nice peachy citrusy smell, and a well balanced taste that doesn't assault your taste buds like the many more-complex-is-better mistake that most recent ipas suffer. Great in a pint, totally acceptable straight out of the can. The look of a beer is not something I think matters frankly. This one looks like beer.

Can from Lúpulo. ~3 weeks old.
1st beer from this brewery.
L: clear amber with off-white head with nice lacing. Nice thick head retention.
S: pine, earthy, grass.
T: caramel, pine, grass
F: fairly thin and slick, mildly bitter dry grassy finish. No alcohol presence.
O: decent wcipa. Had no idea what to expect. Just knew it was a fresh can drop to a highly reputable beer store. Reminds me of something you’d find from these SoCal breweries like El Segundo.

A typical AIPA
Looks are typical, but has a broad lace
Smell is fruit from malt and some aromatic hops. For Taste, bitter enters. At 70 IBU, this is decidedly above my threshold... which is usually under 50. The bubbles are good, but not cleansing as the hops stuck to my tongue for an hour afterwards.... and I didn't even finish the glass.
Panic IPA is way too bitter. If I were to have this with food, it would be a double waste of calories.
I went on their website (as is getting to be a bad habit for my first brew from a joint) and Track 7 is not distinguished. Almost a decade old and having built a business with two taprooms and a restaurant, I did not get a good sense of how they are different... except that they are paying some homage to Sacramento's rail history.

Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a hazy, golden/orange color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of citrus, some pine. Taste is dank, pine, citrus is present but in the background, significant bitterness. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is an enjoyable beer.

Pours golden in color with a fair amount of frothy, white head atop. Lots of lacing as you drink. Carbonation looks solid. Aroma is of grapefruit, melon some herbalness and spice and a hint of malt liquor. Grapefruit rind and lemon up front climaxing to a spicy, floral hoppiness. Not much in the way of malts, other than a hint of light malt liquor towards the end. Alcohol comes through in the finish along with bitter grapefruit rind and spice which lingers on the tongue. Finishes crisp and clean. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with zesty carbonation, a little thin. Not a bad brew, reminds me a little bit of Sculpin IPA but not quite as good. Had this immediately after the Bloomer's Cut, which I much preferred. Still, a solid offering. Cheers!
