2013 - Pours a rich dark brown with a caramel head that lingers and laces well. Nose is of spices, mostly clove, and fruit - maybe raisins - against a slight dark malt undertone. Body is thin. Taste is of spice, mostly ginger and cardamom but a prune flavor is also present. Not complex at all. More dark malt would improve this beer quite a bit. Good carbonation. Finish is of spice with a slight lingering spice induced aftertaste and bitterness. Good but not great.

Handsome dark beer with a two finger tan head with modest lacing. Smell is fruitcake with a touch of herbal hops. Taste is malty dark fruit with a slight earthy hop bitterness on the back end. A touch of brandied raisens come out in the middle. Mouthfeel is toward the thin side and carbonation is barely enough. Overall a better than average winter warmer and well worth a taste.

Appearance: Dark amber with a decent head of foam and good lacing.

Smell: Pine, dark fruits, spices, licorice.

Taste: Dark fruits, spice, herbs, and root beer.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, creamy, with a root beer aftertaste.

The Verdict: Very good. This complex offering from Anchor is by far my favorite from them. Way better than a fruitcake, this brew even smells like Christmas.

Midnight black with thick tan head. Consistent retention throughout.

Holiday spices hit nose, some liquorice and notes of toffee.

Medium body with tastes of roasted malt, coffee. Very milky. Could use some more flavors.

Not too exciting, could be better, but overall okay.

Was pleasantly surprised to see this on the shelves so soon! It's usually much later in the season when I first try it. Let me start by saying if you tried last year's and did not enjoy it, please give it another go because I wasn't crazy about last year's either, but this year's is fantastic. On the nose, I got a molasses and cocoa, with a slight nuttiness. Very light on the palate, and finishes extraordinary smooth. This beer is by far one of my holiday favorites, and I have even started collecting the bottles over the past few years.

A: Pours a deep brown color with ruby hues when held to light. A tightly laced sand colored foam head stays at about half a finger.

S: Has a great blend of baking spices mixed with some bready malt and some dark fruit notes. Cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, banana bread, cola, light chocolate. Digging it.

T: Bready with some spices poking through. Some molasses, dark bread, cinnamon and a rich nuttiness throughout. Mouthfeel is a touch thin, but this is really good. I'm liking this a lot more than last year's.
