12 oz bottle. Pours golden copper with a huge creamy off-white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is odd - leathery plasticky malts with some sweet caramel, green apple and some floral perfumey hops.

The flavor is sweet crystal malts with some odd apple fruit and a lot of floral hops. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, I didn't care for this - green apple and floral perfumey hops.

12 ounce bottle

Old school brand, delivers with this tasty and quality IPA/pale

Shimmering auburn, lazy and looser lite khaki head, leaves respectable low lace on the glass.

On the nose I first get some caramel, then resiny hops.

Flavorful brew with mellow waves of caramel malts with dark bread. Hops in the middle and finish, grapefruit, more mellow resins. Light smoke, lime and some dark toast in the finish.

Enjoyable and quite easy drinking. IPA on the balanced side. Worth a try.

Anchor IPA served from a bottle with no freshness date. Anchor claims to have revived the original IPA style and reproduced a microbrew IPA in 1975 as "americas original microbrewery". The brew pours a dark copper with very frothy large head. Very mild hop aroma. The beer has an initial bitter flavor with only faint hints of hops, more malt than expected, and finishes with the distinct taste of water. Overall just a very mild table beer that has no distinguishable enjoyable attributes besides being easy to drink. We all know anchor has the means and market to create another knockout beer without compromising drinkability. So my question is why don't they try? Why make a mediocre IPA in such a saturated west coast market? This beer is pedestrian and forgettable, do not waste your time.

Deep caramel amber malt driven IPA English style at that from the west coast, the Elephant on the label has multiple meanings...one is the promise of the gold rush, the other is the symbolism of San Franciscans drinking imported English India Pale Ale from the same era. Big creamy khaki textured head, fine speckled lacing around the sides of my glass. Aroma citrus buried amongst the caramelized malt sugars, herbal earthy dankness of whole leaf hops. A great mix of English qualities probably brewed with mostly American ingredients. It smells like the Samuel Smith's quintessential English IPA. A hint of tropical fruit notes, caramelized malt sugars I'm really liking this style of IPA. Flavor is deep earthy, residual bitterness comes of piney, citric peel, and earthy dank qualities with a deep caramel semi bitter dark roast in the end nothing comes off too sweet. But believe me this is a serious beer here. Mouthfeel slick hop oils big natural carbonation slightly tart/bitter finish, nice qualities and feel on the palate. Masterfully executed beer from Anchor their brewing chops are still on top of the game, this beer proves that...I've heard great things about the California lager they produced last year around this time I hope to see it again so I can try that newer Anchor beer as well.

(Served in a globe glass)

A- This beer pours a rusty brown body with a thick tan head that fades to a film and is supported by a gentle carbonation.

S- The juicy fruit hops aroma is very nice with some nougat aromas that might be lightly toasted malt or British yeast, but remains a bit soft.

T- The spicy pungent hops note turns bitter and pungent by the finish of the first sip. There is a dandelion bitterness that lingers on after each sip and it doesn't let up. There are some nougat notes that taste a bit like some British yeast profiles or some Munich malt notes but they stay buried.

M- This beer has a medium mouthfeel with some soft alcohol warmth as it opens.

O- This is a very nice smelling beer but that hop profile does not translate to the taste at all. It was really a bit tough to finish this beer just because of the overly bitter pungent aftertaste, which is to bad, as it had a nice spicy hop note in front.
