Tea amber color with a massive foamy head that lasts for quite awhile.

Balanced East Coast nose with a good amount of cereal grains keeping this thing a-sturdy. Shy hoppy aromas ease forward with pine and earthy herbals. Has a needly spruce vibe that might be the feature note. Pleasantly dry, but very conservative.

Gripping with pine hop and earthy bitterness. Very herbaceous, almost to a fault. Has a robust amber malt base. They call it 'spiky bitterness' on the label. I call it a bad hop recipe. Some onion-y thing going on, too. Finishes late and with some relieving grapefruit pith. Difficult to drink.

Has the right mouthfeel, for the most part. The carbonation is at the right level, but it's too coarse and choppy to last beyond the gulp bite. Body is solid.

I do not want to have to diss this beer, but this is a rough ale. If you want to turn a skeptic onto IPAs, do not give them this beer. For hop torturists, only.

Pours a rich dark orange color with a soapy, sticky head. The aroma has caramel malts as well as a flowery, piney hop. In the taste, well balanced ale with pine, grass, and slight grapefruit going along with a firm, toasted caramel malt base. Medium to full body with spot on medium high carbonation. Overall, this is a solid beer I would not mind drinking on a warm summer day.

12 oz bottle. Pours golden copper with a huge creamy off-white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is odd - leathery plasticky malts with some sweet caramel, green apple and some floral perfumey hops.

The flavor is sweet crystal malts with some odd apple fruit and a lot of floral hops. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, I didn't care for this - green apple and floral perfumey hops.

An IPA from Anchor? Never thought I would see that day.

More robust on the pine characteristics than I would have anticipated. Nice malt body with an equally firm hop influence with a bit of a spicy kick with the pine as the main feature. Not too bad, really. Though with so many IPAs out there on the market, there's a lot of competition and this one will fall to the side a bit, I'd imagine. If only Anchor had put this beer out several years ago before the market became flooded.
