Look is amber somewhat murkey;.nice thick head.
Smell is caramel, malt, tangerine. brown sugar,
Taste is malt, caramel, horse blanket. Sweet explosion followed bitter spicy rye finish.
Feel is good carbonation .
Overall nothing like I expected. It checks all the boxes. Rye spice is amazing. Layers of flavor are much more pronounced than aroma.

22 ounce bottle - $6.99 at Bullock's Wine & Spirits in Marietta, Georgia.
Appearance: Pours a rather clear, lightly hued amber body with easily more than an inch of off-white foam, though it quickly settles.
Smell: Piquant rye with a thin edge of crunchy caramelized sugars, with a touch of modestly toasted bread and hoppy scents smelling of florals, citrus and tropical fruits.
Taste: Pale malts, a bit toasty and enveloped in the subtly sourish, lightly spicy rye. Minor caramel element and very little sweetness on-hand. Tropical fruits and floral hops with a moderate amount of bitterness melding with rye and light alcohol. Citrus fruits and a subsiding bitterness in the lightly crisp finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Overall: Not great by bottle's end.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium coppery amber with a fine half finger white head with great retention and lacing. Malty aroma of caramel, grassy and citrus hops, grain, light rye bread, lightly floral; interesting and pleasant. Flavor is rye bread, caramel malt, orange family citrus, citrus and floral hops. Finishes with a mild lemon citrus and classic rye light tartness and an unusual lingering light tropical fruit element. Medium bodied with a light creaminess and good carbonation. An interesting and uniquely flavored IPA. Rather on the intrepid side of flavor, which is unusual for Anchor. I like this brewery a lot, but often feel like they pull their punches, erring on the safe side. This is full flavored and has exactly the rye and sour mash slight tartness that the name suggests. I'm not a fan of sour beers, but like rye and a touch of tartness and this delivers both to my complete satisfaction. To its credit, I think this an old bottle (a date code is present as a braille like punch on the label, but is completely unreadable) and the hops do taste a bit tired; but it still is a nice tasting and somewhat complex IPA. Not a hop bomb and not as aggressively hopped as the West is accustomed, but well hopped and interesting flavors. Glad I took a chance on this and wish I had tried it fresh, although I enjoyed this well enough.

Clear orange in body with white head. Aroma of wet cat paws, cheddar crackers, Manhattan clam chowder, and dandelion. Tastes of sour, horse blanket, citrus, grass, pine, harsh bitterness, tanic. Medium bodied with medium carbonation.

Appearance: Pours a very pretty, clear, golden, amber color with two fingers of white-colored head that slowly dissolved away into a thick lacing of foam that completely covered the top of the beer.
Aroma: Very nice aromas of toasted malt, spicy rye, caramel, lots of orange and lemony citrus, some floral, grassy, hops but not as much as I was expecting. There’s also some black pepper, coriander and maybe a touch of saffron?
Taste: Wow! Very tasty and not at all what I was expecting for an IPA! Tons of toasted malt and spicy rye upfront, followed by lots of caramel-like sweetness; some orange and lemon-like citrus; some spices of black pepper, cardamom, and a touch of caraway. Finally, at the finish, there’s some beautifully balanced, floral, spicy, piney, slightly bitter, hops. A terrific beer!
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and nicely effervescent as there is some nice carbonation to tickle the taste buds. With an ABV of 7.0%, there is no alcohol on the palate.
Overall: This is an excellent, excellent, beautifully balanced, malty, spiced, slightly sweet, piney, slightly bitter beer!
