I got to point out that the ABV 8.2% is no longer accurate. Per what the bottle says its at 9.4% ABV. Or at least the 2011 addition is.
I recommend people who review this beer note the date code on the back. This one was bottled June of 2011. 9.4% ABV.
Okay, on to more important things, got this at Whole Foods, pretty expensive at almost 15 bucks for a six pack. The price you pay for good beer o guess. I've had this beer in the past although the particular batch i think was watered down a bit. Interesting that they brew this style much like there Christmas ale, changing the recipe every year. Per what there site says the ABV of Old Foghorn can range of 8-10% depending on the year.
Appearance- Pours a deep ruby mahgoney color, with virtually no head, dissipated very quickly. Active cider like carbonation. Not very inviting beer to start.
Smell-Raisins, brown sugar, Sugary figs some alcohol esters. At least smells like a Barleywine. Hints of vanilla extract as well Really thrown off from the appearance.
Taste-Raisins. vanilla extract, figs, some grape flavors. Hint of bittering hops, cascade i think is what they use from what there site says.
Mouthful/Overall- little off putting on the very appearance of this beer, as well as the texture. Thought it would be more of a slow sipper, heavier if you will. On the upside probably one of the more drinkable barleywines I've had. There are better barleywines out there.
Although at first this beer is disappointing initially, really benefits when it warms up a bit. Flavors come out more, overly active carbonation subsides a little. Not bad but not a great barleywine. Again probably the most drinkable barley I've had, you can probably stand to do 2 maybe even three.

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass.
Review from notes: February 7th, 2014.
A: Amber with off-white head which quickly disappears.
S: Citrus; lemon with slight hop aroma.
T: Somewhat bitter and boozy. It gets better as I drink.
M: Interesting. Slick and thick.
O: This is my first taste of this style. It's pretty interesting. The only negative with this brew is that it is expensive around here, around $3 a bottle.
