22 ounce bottle - $3.99 at Olde Crabapple Bottle Shoppe in Alpharetta, Georgia.

Cryptic brewing bottle code translates: August 22, 2011.

Appearance: Pours a ruby-brown body with noted clarity and crowned with a frothy, foamy, beige head.

Smell: Dusky dark maltiness, with modest notes scented of toast, brown sugar, and roast. A sliver of raisin-like fruitiness. Fairly mild hop accents of citrus and dried grasses.

Taste: Toasted bread crusts with some light sweetish hints of brown sugar and dark caramel. Light dark fruitiness. Mild inclusions of molasses and roasted pecans. Lightly citrusy hops with some grassy dry-hopping accents. Even fainter hint of pine bark. Lightly bitter. Dry, malty finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation.

Overall: While definitely not the boldest brown on the block, it's fairly refreshing and pleasant enough, though a notch less alcohol would be appreciated. Still pretty good, though.

This is malt perfection. Exactly what I look for in a brown ale-rich, malty, balanced with hop bitterness that cuts down on the sweetness, but is not the main presence. Don't even consider Newcastle, this is the way to go. I won't even pair it with food because it is so good I wouldn't want any other flavors to interfere with it.

Brekle’s brown ale (3.5, 3.75, 4, 4, 3.75)Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a medium brown color with a billowy tan colored head. The head has a nice level of retention, slowly fading to leave a bit of streaky lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell- The aroma of the beer is quite heavy of a sweet caramel and toffee aroma mixed with some light aromas of a roasted malt nature. Along with these aromas are some light nutty and chocolate aromas as well as a little bit of an earthy and herbal smell.
Taste – The taste begins with a sweet caramel and toffee flavor with a smooth roasted malt flavor. These flavors create a base for the beer lasting to the very end. Along with these flavors so too comes some notes chocolate and some light hop flavors of pine and a little bit of earth. With a light nut that joins the taste at the very end one, is left with a smooth, moderately roasted, and sweet flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the slightly thicker and creamier side for a beer of only 6% abv. with a carbonation level that is slightly low. The thicker feel of the brew in combo with the lower carbonation give the beer a nice creamy feel and are great for the mix of roast, sweet, and nut flavors.

Overall – A very enjoyable brown ale with a nice sweet roasted flavor. Quite enjoyable.
