A Sante Adairius beer that's named after one of my favorite albums?! Sweet. Poured into a 25cl tulip pint at Trappist Provisions. As fresh as they come.

Pours a pitch black color, with an off-khaki head as well as some thickness that should be expected in an "imperial porter." Some fantastically decent lacing, in spite of the ABV. Leaves behind minimal stickiness. An elegant, straightforward porter here.

This is brewed with oats, coffee, and honey, and, luckily enough, it shows this immensely. Notes of roasted coffee and chocolate meld extremely well with a crackly, fresh grainy flavor, as well as notes of vanilla, honey, toffee, and baking spices of all kinds. Some notes of dark fruits are present, more notably of raisins and prunes. There's a slight sweetness from the alcohol, but otherwise, it's ridiculously refreshing stuff.

I think this beer was lovable right at the first sip, and as always with these guys, the ingredients come together meticulously and flavorful to deliver an diverse porter that never feels to over the top. At first, the roasted profile of chocolate and coffee dominates the palate, but soon notes of caramelized sugars (from the honey, no doubt) resembling light toffee and vanilla coat the palate alongside dark fruit notes and slight herbal notes as well (tea, tobacco). Really appealing overall - finishes with a roasted, slightly bitter note that cleanses the palate in a proper manner. To make matters better, this is near perfected in its feel - creamy, crisp, clean, and with just the appropriate amount of carbonation that brings forth the gentle roasted nuances from the porter. This is really well brewed - the absolutely least chore I've had in the style.

Could this be the best American strong porter I've ever had? In light of HF's Birth of Tragedy I had recently, this is far more enjoyable (fresh, to me), and there's no bourbon added this time around! Drinks extremely light and maintains tons of flavor and restraint throughout. Sante Adairius seems to be able to any style well. Props to them.
