sampled this afternoon at the brewery alongside vanilla joe and after tasting their saisons.
appearance - deep brown with attractive, milk chocolate foam. foam crashed leaving a ring that lasted most of the beer.
smell - rich chocolate, mild roast
taste - truly excellent. opens with vanilla wafer and then chocolate and smooth roast through it all. caramel notes in the background blend perfectly into the profile. the whole thing is incredibly put together. well integrated flavors.
mouthfeel - dryer than many american porters. no hop or grain astringency. hop bitterness is a background player here. the length of the flavor gives it a substantial feel.
overall - a really great porter. this beer likely gets overshadowed by their excellent saisons. i wish they filled growlers!
