Great vibe. Very relaxed place and if you are there any day but a bottle release there is probably enough room to get comfortable.

Quality is flawless. Everything they do, they are at the top of their game. Who else has american wild ales and their hop game so locked in?

Only place I can ding them is service. Losing a quarter point for a certain surly employee and a full point for not retooling their club... Been going here for years and spent thousands of dollars but I still have to watch Cellar members picking up their Westly and other beers and just wonder what they will taste like because I wasn't cool enough to be invited. :( I'm sure its a lot of fun for members but a lot of very loyal customers are starting to feel pretty left out. They should at least put that stuff on tap at some point so other supporters can share in the full SARA experience.

Selection is top notch. Something on the board for everyone!

The place is a must visit for beer lovers as it is not too far away from San Francisco! It offers a very good selection of beers in a very laid back and relaxing atmosphere!

First of all, thank you to Adair for being such a great host to my wife and I, and telling me the story of this unique brewery. SARA (Sante Adairius Rustic Ales) as the locals refer to it, is located right off Highway 1 in the small town of Capitola. They are in a small business area with a health food/drink store and an urban winery. They had a very cool and large mural painted on the wall across from them showcasing their love for dogs. They do not serve food, this is simply a tasting room and brewery set up, but you can bring in your own and Aptos Street BBQ just down Highway 1 does bring food often.
It has only been three years and this place already has five foeders of all shapes and sizes. It is quite impressive on the amount of equipment and barrels that they have fit into this tiny space. They started as essentially one tiny warehouse unit and have since expanded to three, but they will need more room soon to keep up with demand in the near future. Their days of hand bottling each pallet at a time will soon end when they get a unique secondhand line from Pasadena in the next few months. I always like to hear a brewery story where somebody goes out on a whim, funds the whole thing themselves with their savings account, and just goes for it without outside funding. SARA has managed to turn a little start up into a full-fledged brewery that is getting national recognition.
The number of different bottled beers they have released during these few years is mind blowing. People around the industry have gone nuts for their multitude of sour offerings. They also have quite a house yeast built up consisting of five different Brett strains in addition to Lacto. I found that they also have a membership club, which costs $275 per year and offers twelve beers to its members, most of them exclusively made just for the club. It is similar to clubs currently ran by The Bruery, Rare Barrel, Fifty Fifty, Libertine, and Casa Agria. There is a currently a waiting list you can sign up for in the tasting room.
The place had a nice mix of locals, beer geeks, and tourists seeking out a quality craft beer destination. I like that they gear their beers towards the local audiences and have a community feel. They have partnered with a local restaurant on a special beer only available there, did a notable collaboration with Cellarmaker Brewing Company in San Francisco, and even offered a keg of 831 IPA at Modern Times’ Festival of Dankness earlier this year. Also, they just collaborated with Pennsylvania’s Tired Hands Brewing Company, in addition to Vermont’s wonderchild brewery, Hill Farmstead, on “Works of Love.”
SARA typically keeps ten beers on draft at all times with six taps up front and four right around the side. When I was there, they offered two different IPAs, a bitter, pale ale, porter, tripel, four grain saison, coffee stout, and two tart saison blends. Simpleton, their IPA with Galaxy hops, was my favorite from the day. They managed to avoid the vegetal and onion flavor that the hop usually gives off. It was one of the better hoppy beers I have ever tasted along the Central Coast. SARA also offers tasteful clothing to purchase, growlers of their hoppy beers, and usually a different bottle or two to go, in which the offering changes a couple times a week. They sell out quite fast! In addition to their draft offerings I sampled during my visit this past weekend, I sampled Appreciation.

Appreciation, their red wine barrel aged boysenberry sour, is delicious. The color is a medium to deep red with a bubbly light pink head. The aroma is boysenberry, red grapes, Brettanomyces, Lactobacillus, faint pineapple, and hay-like funk. The taste is nice oak up front, mild berries with a light citrus backbone, wild yeast flavors increasing as it warms, and a barrel character that keeps you coming back for more. The mouthfeel is prickly with strong carbonation, a medium body, and very well hidden alcohol. This is a fantastic representation of a fruited sour.

I look forward to trying more of their beers in the future. I can honestly say that if I lived in the area, I would be there at least one day a week. It is a great place to drink a beer in a great little town. In addition, their Nonna’s Blend, CASK 200, and SARA Loves Brett series would definitely be worth checking in each time a new one released. I myself will be getting on the waiting list to become a SARA beer club member in the future. This brewery has solid year round offerings coupled with an endless number of one off bottles and blends, which is just the equation to survive and prosper in this rapidly growing business of craft beer. SARA is here to stay, and their next steps will be to find enough space to fulfill their growing customer demand. There are a top notch operation in a quaint little coastal town!

SARA is in my hometown and really put it on the map in the beer world. Although there are many breweries in Santa Cruz this one is the crown jewel. The AWAs are were it's at, for me. Smooth, chill vibe. Even see Adair running around picking up glasses. Very amazing beer from a very amazing group.

I liked this place. I stopped by on a road trip. I talked with bartender, some locals, got a quick tour and tried a couple of beers. There wasn't a big bottle release going on so the place was quite pleasant.
I imagine that it would be super crowded during a popular release.

Nice spot just outside of Santa Cruz (in Capitola). Good beer with relatively limited seating. If possible, get there early in the day when they open!

Not really a place that you'd happen to be by to drop in at but worth a stop if you're headed to Monterey or Santa Cruz from the Bay Area or to the Bay from SoCal.
It's a tiny place but I guess if I think of the tasting area in the scope of say, Russian River, it's maybe 1/3-1/2 the size, so not too tiny.
There were I'd say eight to ten beers on-tap and three available in bottles, of which one was only for on-site consumption and while the half/full pour prices varied (both very reasonable given the quality of the beer) the bottles were $17/750ml.
It was packed, especially as we were leaving, but the counter servers weren't snotty or in any way rude, which was nice. I think it could have something to do with the fact the customers know the beer and it;s not a "LETS GET DRUNK" type of place.
There were bbq menus but I'm not sure if the food came from a grill in the same complex (the location is pretty odd) or they delivered, but it was BBQ and looked good.
No reservations about stopping in again what so ever. I'm starting to get into the sour crazy and this place fed my thirst 100%
