If you want a true Prague experience you need to stop in at "Fleck's Place" during the Orthodox Christmas season. The place was packed with people from every corner of the world. It was very loud and sounded like the United Nations cafeteria. We had already eaten, so we did not try the food, but from what I have been told it is average. That wonderful beer of theirs, however, is delicious, strong, and never stops coming to the table!

What a place. The whole setting has 1200 seating places (not just the brewpub though). U Fleku is NOT like any other pub. If u are into the English Style pubs and you can't stand anything different then this is not your pub. A great place with a garden at the back yard to sit and enjoy your beer. I went there for lunch and it had a lot of tourists enjoying their beers and food. This place must be darn great in summer time and especially the nights. They serve only one beer their own brewed dark beer. The beer is excellent. It also has a shop on your way out to buy any souvenirs. I bought a U Fleku beer glass for my collection. Great brew house/beer garden!!!

Whilst records state that the original brewing rights for the U Fleku are dated 1499, it is highly probably brewing took place here long before then. 1499 is the official date though & so the U Fleku celebrated its 500th Birthday recently. It is comprised of many rooms, but these are usually reserved for special functions or coach parties. The casual visitor will more than likely be ushered, or drawn by the noise, to the centrally located open air area courtyard, this houses many long bench tables and a few trees!. Your beer will be brought to you by one of the many suited waiters - you do not have to order it, just sit down. When I first came here in 1992, we ran a table tab on the back of a beer mat, however, it appears this practise has ceased somewhat, and it is now customary to pay the waiter for the beer on delivery.
Choice is limited, just the One House Beer. But what a Beer!!. A dark, spicy brew that comes in a 0.4 ltr glass and costs (2002) 49 Kcs, which is ~$1.60. It is expensive, at least twice that of anywhere else in Praguebut the beer here is simply the one of the best dark beers in the Czech Republic. The surroundings are excellent and an imbibational inspiration. If you walk here you will no doubt pass the many rows of German Coaches parked outside. The U Fleku is very commercial now, & it clearly caters for parties of Germans, who have a very cheap drinking outlet for excellent beer that is not very far from home. Souvenirs can be bought on the way out (right hand side booth as you leave).
Put simply, this place is a legend, sure it has changed over the years and it is commercial, but then, so now is Prague. It is still a "Must Do" if you ever find yourself wondering aimlessly around the capitol with time on your hands. The U Fleku serves arguably one on the best Dark Beers in the Czech Republic & is the Best Beer Hall in Europe outside of Germany IMVHO.

I think all the reviews/travel books will tell you the same thing...This place is touristy....But who the hell cares!!!! Bottom line is that is if youre in Prague you can't miss this place. Embrace your inner tourist and just enjoy the place. What I loved about this place is the atmosphere. You go in and just find an open seat at one of the picnic style tables. You might cramped next to someone you dont know..all the better!. Other thing you have to remember when comin here ....everyone comes to drink and have fun. Another thing that I loved about this place was that it was assumed that you would have another otherwise you woudl have to tell the server with a plate full of beer that you didnt want one. The beer is actually pretty good too a dark lager that is soooo drinkable. The only downside of this place is that theres not much selection, the obligatory tuba player can get annoying as well as the man comin around offerin you shots (dont feel bad refusing). Overall though a must if youre in prague but later if youre lookin for a less touristy place definetly check out (wow bad pun) pivoarsky dum and the other brew pub i cant think of the name but its up on the hill near the castle.

Pivo, prosim. Translation in Czech: Beer please. Opened in 1499, this is touted as the oldest beer hall in Prague. Excellent house beer, a dark czech lager, with a black color and creamy head, was definitely the highlight of this beer hall. it had spicey notes, and was much like a winterbrau. It's been about a year and a half since I was there, so that's about all I remember.
This establishment in Nove Mesto, is about a twenty minute walk south of Staromestske Namesti, the heavily touristed "Old Town Square." You would think you would be getting away from the tourists as you leave Stare Mesto, but alas, many people are in the know about U Fleku. No matter, it is still an amazing place to visit.
Sitting down at a table, you are almost immediately greeting by a man carrying a tray full of house beer. Just say "ano, pivo" (yes, beer) and hold up your fingers on how many you want. It's great, no need to order your beer and wait, you come in and it's waiting for you. There was also a tray coming around with a cinnamon-flavored schnapps. I wasn't really a fan, as were my friends who all prefered the pivo. I did not try the food, and can't even remember the food. I think it was traditional Czech fare, dumplings, goulash. I just savored the beer long throughout the night as I listened to this old man play tunes on the accordian. This place really makes you feel like you're in Prague. People of young and old, and of all nationalities come together to celebrate the joy of beer, and a lively conversation. It was truly a memorable experience.
On the way out, I hit up the gift shop. Steins of all kinds are featured. I opted for the simple ceramic litre stein with the U Fleku logo on it.

Met some family on a day trip to Prague. This was listed as stop #6 on my Beer Trail of Prague in "Great Beers" by DK publishing.
I ended up doing it third after the Old Town Square and U Zlateho Tygra, and ended up finishing the day at U Fleku.
A vibrant and crowded atmosphere; Traditional Bavarian-esque /Bohemian brass trio playing oompa-loopa drinking songs.
I was in a group of four, and we sat in the Beer Garden; we were immediately greeted by one waiter placing shots of Bechrekova (traditional Czech liquor from Karloy-Vary/Carlsbad), and another with a half liter of the Flekovsky tmavy lezack (dark house beer).
Several tourist groups singing drinking songs, and after several beers we began joining in.
Great place to visit if you have a time.

Beutiful city and place. It's toursity and pricey, The food is average, but its loads of fun and has a traditional czech atmophere. It's can be ahrd to find. Get some help.
Best dark lager around. Prague has a lot of dark lagers but this micro is one of the best. You can only get in at u fleku which is kinda of expensive for what it is, but this beer is great.
Dark in color and has a light full flavor taste. Perfect example of what a dark lager should be. I can't locals were saying this beer was going down hill. How much better can it be.

Me an my buddies went here on our little stint throughout europe. We had heard of this place and it's history and it was a must stop in our minds.
So we didn't get there until late in the night - Let me lay it out first. Imagine that scene in beauty and the beast when gaston and the other bros are chillin in the cabin bar. Ok you have that image. Combine it with the 4 house tables image of Harry Potter and the great hall. Of so that is what we walked in on. The cabin feel with 4 huge bench like tables running down the middle. The place was packed (with just enough room for us of course). We sat down and a waitor came to our table and asked if we were eating and drinking - yes to both so he took out two pieces of paper and put tallie marks on each - yes this was our bill. anyways moving on
Atmosphere was incredible there was music playing and the band played some American songs for us and everyone cheered as we got up and sang. It was hardcore beer hall like I have imagined in the past.
Food - great food - not a lot of options though - we were basically given the option of roast chicken or smoked sausage. Great choices in my mind considering the man like atmosphere.
Beer selection - 1 - the draft they have been making forever. It was awesome to and endless - You just held up your hand and one was sliding along the table in your direction.
I highly recomend going here if oyu have the chance.
