A suggestion from my uncle on a recent trip to Montreal.

A - Pours a nice clear golden colour, solid thumb of fine bubbled head with solid retention and nice chunky lacing.

S - Nose is dominated by sweet floral hops, a solid clove and nutmeg scent alongside a sour citrus finish.

T - The cloves dominate alongside sweet citrus hop notes, bananas, hints of nutmeg, and a grassy finish. A sour citrus flavour lingers alongside the cloves and sweet yeast esthers.

M - Lighter bodied ale that goes down smooth and finishes surprisingly dry.

O - Overall a tasty example of the style, well worth procuring and I'm glad it was recommended to me. Would love to try this stuff on tap right from the brewery.

Appearance: It has a nice hazy golden/yellow color to it. It has a nice thick off-white head that dies down slowly and leaves nice lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of Belgian yeast, cloves, a touch of pepper, some breadiness and floral hops.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has some Belgian yeast, cloves, banana, faint pepper, some bread and floral hops.

Mouthfeel: It has a med/high carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied with good flavors and aromas.

A:
Pours a nice cloudy chamomile color with tons of fluffy, white head with nice lacing and perfect retention. So "beery" looking it almost looks cartoonish.

S:
Smells lightly floral with some hints of grass and a touch of yeasty sweetness.

T:
Tastes unoffensive and lightly citrusy, generally crisp and refreshing. Bit of hops, bit of floral flavors, some tea.

M:
Not a very impressive mouthfeel but crisp and bubbly with a little bit of sweetness and a clean finish.

O:
Very good beer. A little like a saison and quite enjoyable on the whole. I would definitely drink it again.

Bottled December 14, 2011.

Beer is a light golden with a very large, snow white head. Head is thick and solid looking. Great retention. Good lacing.

Smell is nice. A bit reminiscent of Charlevoix's Blanche, there appears to be chamomile in the beer. Sweet malt, some spicy notes (coriander), lemon, Belgian yeast.

Taste follows the nose. Creamy, sweet malt, Belgian yeast, lemon, coriander. Again, has a lot of similarities to the Blanche, but with a different malt base. Spices come out particularly in the finish.

Medium bodied, high carbonation.

Overall, a very enjoyable beer.

Bright light golden color with a fluffy, long-lived head that leaves gobs of lacing on the glass. Very pretty.

Full aroma dominated by lemon and coriander. Flavor is tart and crisp with lemon and fruity esters balanced by a dry finish. Leafy herbal hops balance out the profile.

Light to medium body with a fine carbonation that works with the dry finish to cleanse the palate and plead for another sip.

Very drinkable, balanced and tasty. I would rank it as a fine saison and recommend it any time. Drinks more like a 4.5% abv beer.

500ml Bottle - from Marche Omni for around 4$

Appearance - Slightly hazy yellow/amber colour with a large size fizzy white coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation and there is some good lacing. The head lasted for over 5 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Lemon, grains, banana, yeast

Taste & Mouth - There is an above average amount of carbonation and I can taste lemons, bananas, and grains mixed with malts. There is also some floral notes and it ends with a lemony tart aftertaste.

Overall - A well crafted beer that is well worth it's price. The flavours are well balanced and pleasant. The beer is very easy to drink and I'd have it again.

Seems that it's named after a alcohol bootlegger from the 30's in Charlevoix - this would explain the name as it translates to "Bootlegger". Also, looks like they made this beer specifically for a restaurant in the area.

Poured into my Microbrasserie Charlevoix flute. It's got a big Pillowy two finger head, tons of carbonation, beautiful bright golden blond color. Foggy, clearly unfiltered. Strong Aromas of Lemon, cloves, Belgian yeast & root beer. Smells fantastic.

Tastes of yeast, citrus, with some sourness. Less sweet then expected from... the nose. Spices. Hits the tongue and right away feels as if you are going to get a lots of sugar, instead there is a subtle sweetness followed by a sour bitter finish from the a yeast and the hops.

Great medium/heavy body, creamy. However, still goes down very smooth. I was excited to try this one as this brewery is my favorite in Quebec. It was extremely well balanced and just plain tasty overall. A prime example of how Quebec is taking the Belgian style to new levels.

bottle from awesome girlfriend in gatenoux.

pours a light yellow-orange color with a nice finger of head. carbonation retreats quickly leaving a nice ring of lacing around.
Nose is nice, a belgian yeast with a nice english hop presence... some nice light bready characteristics. Lemon comes out a bit on the back end of the nose as well. More complex nose than i expected. More of a saison style nose.
Taste is a let down based on the nose. I get a lot of soda water on the finish... trace amounts of hop and belgian yeast, a hint of banana, some brett on the finish too. I was going to rip this, because the first sip was all soda water, but the more I drink this, it is getting more complex and impressive.
Mouthfeel is a bit thin and largely bubbled... but meh, everything else outweighs it. I like this.

Had this with my brother in law, we split a 500 ml bottle into two pints
Smelled like a Belgian beer, (belge yeast) very floral and sweet
The appearance was gold and hazy with a nice head
The taste was right on for the style, Belgian yeast with nice residual sugars
Mouthfeel was nice and it had a good texture in mouth ( not watered down)
Overall I love Microbrasserie du Charlevoix and this beer is defiantly worth trying from them!

Viggo brought this one over, picked up on a recent trip to montreal. thanks eric!

500ml bottle. bottled on 2010 AOU 24. sampled feb 26/2011.

pours orangey amber, mostly clear until the bottom of the bottle when it got a little yeasty haze. a small cap of bright white head forms, dropping slowly and leaving spotty lace.

aroma is great. bright floral hops. belgian yeasty spice. caramel and toffee. honey. white bread and cracker. touch of grain. light alcohol. faint ginger and coriander.

taste is good. floral and slightly perfumey. caramel and honey. light buttery toffee. coriander and ginger and belgian yeasty spice. lightly warming alcohol. low bitterness level. a little flatter than the aroma, but still quite nice.

mouthfeel is nice. slightly prickly medium-high carbonation level. light body with a fairly dry finish.

drinkability is nice. pretty good balance. nice depth. a solid BPA.
