Good. God. Damn. This is probably the best beer-bar i've been to. All I can say to the people lucky enough to be living in this nice Chicago neighborhood is...you don't know how lucky you got it!
The Map Room has a really high-class bar atmosphere. The place is littered with both current and historical breweriana, and the tables, walls, and bar area is covered with maps. The dark-wood that lines the wall and barback area is gorgeous, and the staging area for the bar is particularly classy with well-organized beerlists, beer-vessels, and a display of currently available bottles. In the back of the place is a free pool table to boot. I can see how this place could get hellaciously crowded because it was doing a steady business around 2 o'clock on an idle Tuesday and also because the place is really pretty small.
There is a plethora of on-tap beers, of course. I was a little disappointed that I missed Racer 5 by a day or two, but commiserated with a Hop Devil. Other impressive beers on-tap were Saison Dupont, Gumballhead, and two or three Cantillion beers (at what I consider a steal at $6 a chalice). Keep an eye on the online menu because they updated it fairly frequently...but don't get too excited 'cause they blow through stuff fairly fast. I was also impressed by the single-malt collection as well as Anchor's Rye Whiskey. I also thought the place seemed significantly cheaper than the Hopleaf, but I may be wrong as I went to the Hopleaf at 1:45 a.m. and this place at 1:45 pm.
This place is an absolute must-stop when in Chicago. I don't know how any beer-aficionado could be disappointed. There's something here for everyone.

Another must stop in Chicago...probably the coolest bar I've ever been in....the selection won't necessarily blow you away but there's not a bad beer on the list if that makes sense...
It was a privilege to be able to drink a beer in this setting..

This place is cool. I can't really think of a better way to describe it. It's just cool. A great spot to be just away from all of the really busy parts of Chicago. Beer list is deep but won't blow anybody away that's been lucky enough to travel all around for beer. Still feels a little like an old school bar, but that's part of the fun.

Love this place. Outstanding selection - with a heavy bias for high-octane brew and belgians. Great vibe. Appealing as both a place to relax with a brew or get some work done on a Friday afternoon as it is a place to spend an entire evening exploring delicious brews.

My favorite Chicago multi-tap, and a place I make it a point to visit several times on every Chicago visit. Great draft and bottle selection, with new items almost daily. Nice, beer-savvy people on both sides of the bar.
Oh, and they now do take credit cards.

This is my neighborhood bar... a mere two blocks away from my home of the last 15 years.
The Map Room is widely known and loved by most. It was a pioneer in brining Chicagoans a wide variety of craft beers.
I started going in 2003 after returning from England and finding out that The Map Room had an engine that poured English beers from a cask.
My only suggestion is that they should serve flights.
Visit The Map Room when you are in Chicago ... But, know that there is much more in what many here believe is becoming the center of the third generation of craft brewers.

My go-to, very first stop when visiting Chicago. Possibly tied with Belmont Station in Portland as my favorite place in the US to bend my elbow. Fantastic beer selection, well-educated staff and, well...it is truly a Map Room!

Map room consistently has a solid tap list and more than a few interesting bottles. Only issue is that they seem to run out of what you are looking for quite often. Not to worry! A quick chat with the bartender will result in you finding a new beer or even brewery that is just as good, or better, than the one you were originally seeking.

This is a good craft brew place to visit. Seemed to be set up like a coffee shop, but with craft beer. Meaning, ample space to set up your labtop and get some work done, while enjoying local brews. The service was fine, but slow, but that was mostly due to another patron and a long winded story. Selection was fine, and they had several local options. But the selection didn't blow me away. The place came highly recommended, and while not quite living up to hype, I'd still recommend checking out.
