look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75

Poured bottle into glass. 6.6% abv

Appearance- Pours a deep orange with a moderate head that dissipates fast. Quite cloudy.

Smell- Quite a good amount of citrus, not too much malt to the nose. Lemon and grapefruit become evident in aroma.

Taste- A decent amount of pine followed but hints of citrus fruit but not as much as in the nose. A biscuit like sweetness blends into a dry hop finish. The after taste of hops is minimal and not super strong as many IPAs. The citrus sweetness lasts longer than the bitterness for sure.

Mouthfeel- Medium body with a creamy texture. The moderate amount of carbonation could have a bit more to it.

Overall- A solid IPA offering from my local brewery. I had this on draft at the Perk and it was better than a bottle but that's a given with all beer. Still this beer is fitting to its style. The citrus flavor paired well to the malt here. Despite the lower amount of carbonation, this is a damn smooth IPA and quite an easy one to drink.

Picked this up last week in Totowa, never having this before or any beer from Free Will for that matter. This had to be one of the strangest labels that I've ever seen on a beer but what was on the inside turned out to be rather pedestrian. With so many IPA's out there, this wouldn't necessarily be a bad choice but there wasn't much about this that made it stand out from the others.

This had a hazy, goldenrod hue to it with a moderate head that quickly settled and just a bit of lacing to accompany that. Lots of "weed" in the smell, reminiscent of a Green Flash beer. Some tropical fruit, floral notes, and some tangy tangerine in the back. Even a bit of chili-chocolate to liven things up, perhaps? It's there along with a oily consistency and strong hop burn that strikes early and fades away to some grassy notes in the back. This was a bit too earthy for me but still a somewhat easy beer to drink because of how subdued the alcohol was.

It was present but by no means was this overtly strong or a beer dominated by the hops. The carbonation could have been present a bit more and this finished dry but overall, this beer was pretty easy to quaff and a decent take on the style. With so many other IPA's out there, this didn't stand out from the pack but even after downing this, I still can't figure out what's up with the label...

12 oz bottle. Undated

Pours a dark amber orange with a thin, dense creamy white head. Minimal lace or retention. Old nose of leafy Citra, earth, dirt, and sweet, sweet bread. This is the problem with not dating bottles. You buy a bottle local to the brewer expecting it might be half way fresh and then... this happens. Flavor hints at what is probably a nice citrus-y IPA, but instead bready malt and grassy, dirty bitterness dominates with lingering citrus juiciness. I'll give FW benefit of doubt that this isn't best sample and revisit if I see this on draft. Otherwise, eww.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip

Burnt orange with a fluffy bone white cap. Decent retention, good spider web lacing. Good looking beer.

Nose doesn't pop the way I want it to. Good hop aroma, but no burst. Nectarines, grapefruit, papaya, mango, a bit of underripe melon. Solid profile. Some bready/biscuity malt holding down the back end.

Some juicy tropical fruit with a touch of pine sap is held back by a sturdy malt bill. The flavor profile doesn't wow me, but it is not far off, it's just a little subdued.

Carbonation is too low, this could be causing the flavor and aroma not to pop a little bit. On the lighter side of medium bodied.

This is a good beer that just needs a touch of rounding out. Good flavor, good nose, good hop profile. This has the foundation to be a really good beer, it's just not there yet.

look: 3.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.75

Pours a cloudy light copper with a finger of head that enjoys some decent retention. The nose is hoppy with a trace of malt thrown in for good measure. The flavor profile is well balanced, but a touch thin. The body is quite light considering the ABV of this offering. The finish is pleasantly dry, but leaves one wanting something a bit more exciting.

look: 3.75 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.75

Poured into a sam adams custom glass: color is copper, slightly opaque, head is off white, solid presentation, good lacing.

Smell is big, floral, fruity hops: grapefruit, lemon, mangos, touch of malt sweetness.

Taste is big on hop bitterness, fruity, floral hop flavors continue from the scent, grapefruit rind and mangos are prominent; malts are neutral, not any caramel, some grape type flavor noted (munich malts?). Something drying and to onesided about the taste, earthy hops and metallic flavors noted as it comes through as it warms.

Mouthfeel is also a bit onesided, hop bitterness is not overstrong, but flavors are subdued. Strong on the tongue and drying.

Overall, a decent ipa, its not too sweet, but the off flavors take away from big hop profile.

Bottle > Pint Glass

A - Pours a murky orange color with a ton of head and lots of lacing.
S - Big time orange scent, some other citrus as well, a little sweet bread kind of malt, some earthy undertones.
T - Good hope bite and citrus flavor in this one, both are well balanced, a good touch of sweet malt, crisp tart apple.
M - Lots of carbonation, but a little sticky, good lingering taste.
O - Was pleasantly surprised by this brew, I'm going to try more of theirs because of this beer.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker pint.

Hazy gold with 1 finger of white head. Decent retention and low carbonation.

Pineapple, papaya, tangerine and candy sugar.

Good amounts of tangerine and orange citrus. Notes of pineapple and papaya. Lightly bready malt profile with doses of candy sugar. Touches of orange zest and pine in the finish.

Medium bodied, crisp, smooth and dry.

This is a pretty nice IPA. Lots of orange citrus. Well balanced with a light bitterness.

On tap at the Tipperary Pub.

Appearance: Nice clear golden color, short white head, some lacing

Smell: Very fruity hops, tropical and citrus fruits, with some biscuity malts in the background

Taste: A nice complex blend of tropical and citrus hops, with a good biscuit and caramely malt backbone. The hops steal the show here, but you know there is malt. Some bitterness, but not overwhelming

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body, good carbonation

Overall: Honestly, fantastic. This is my style of IPA, this focuses more on fruity flavors than the piney resinous hops. Not sure if I would have picked it up off a shelf prior to this, but I'm glad there were only a few choices of IPA on tap, and that I was in the mood for an IPA.

Served on tap in a pint glass

Appearance – Served an amber colored brew with a one finger of foamy white head. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a fantastic level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma is heaviest of a sweeter tropical fruit smell of pineapple, papaya, and tangerine. Along with these smells is a bit of caramel sweetness as well as some aromas of a more biscuity nature. Aromas of a more melon like nature are there as well giving it a sweet, fruity smell overall.

Taste – The taste begins with a moderately strong biscuit malt taste with some sweetness of a caramel nature mixed within. As the flavor advances a good deal of fruity sweetness comes to the tongue with a moderately good deal of orange, tangerine, and pineapple all coming to the tongue. Some hop tastes start developing midway through the taste with them being mainly of a grassy nature at first, but adding a good deal of grapefruit hoppiness as the flavor moves on. Some watermelon rind like flavors come to the tongue more as the flavor advances to the end, as well as increase in the overall hop flavor. With the increase in hop and all the sweet fruity tastes and nice biscuit malt base, one is left with a clean hopped fruity flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel –The body of the beer is just a tad over average in its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is average. Both are great for the blend of sweet, biscuit, and hop flavors that the brew possesses, highlighting all but yet not allowing one to dominate the flavor profile.

Overall –A rather tasty and enjoyable IPA overall. Quite delicious and one nice drink to try if you get a chance.

I like this beer. It was a great example of the IPA style.
Came to me, via a bartender at the Blue Dog, an orange amber color and made for a striking contrast with a tall dense white head. Like an orange creamcicle.
Aroma was fantastic. Bold and citrusy hops.
Taste was equally good and mirrored the nose. Fresh, wet hops with a citrus taste. The malts were in great balance and sweet.
Carbonation tickled the palate. It drinks sweet but also tends to dry out at the finish. Pleasently bitter with some sticky hops.
Really, an awesome beer. Go get some!
