Ok, my 1st stout here in Hong Kong. Poured from an 11.2 oz. bottle. Has black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is mild,a bit of coffee. Taste is not mild, coffee, hops, some chocolate, well done. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a solid beer.

Had in Beijing.
335ml bottle poured into a pint glass.
ABV: 6.7%
Ingredients list water, barley, rice, and hops.

A- Quite a dark brown. Thick tan head dissipates quickly. Moderate carbonation.

S- Roasted malt. Alcohol. Dark Cherries and raisins.

T- Bitter, burnt taste. Boozy dark fruit. Sour Cherries.

M- Decently thick mouthfeel. Sweet and boozy finish.

A commendable attempt at a stout from one of China's largest breweries. Enjoyable for what it is.

Bought this beer with absolutely no expectation when travelling in Shandong, China
Poured from a bottle that was produced in Qingdao city into a tumbler
refrigerated to about 7 degrees C
Looks like flat coca-cola, with pretty much no head
Has a strong toasty, malty and rather sweet smell, and somewhat reminiscent of roasted coffee beans
The flavor is full, bitter, caramel, malty, but not fruity nor sweet. The taste is dry, one can almost taste the alcohol
After swallowing the beer, the bitterness is not long lasting, rather, sweetness returns to the palate like drinking a fine cup of Chinese tea

Verdict: this is a fantastic beer. Taste is reminiscent of American stouts such as the Lagunitas cappuccino stout (except this Tsingtao is actually very very palatable). If one runs into it, I strongly recommend at least try

I appreciate Dr G for sharing this foreign stout, enjoyed chilled in a tumbler.

The color is deep brown like cola with light coffee brown at base with translucent clarity. The head is thick and creamy with tan shade -measures about 2 1/2 fingers. There is good retention too with above average amount of lace stickage. The smell is very nice with blend of caramel and plum aroma with mild roast notes and slight spice with gentle herbal hop ester and slight hint of char. The feel has a dry body with moderately high carbonation and sweet middle with high roasted texture and spice with gentle dry and slightly creamy finish.

This stout tastes mineral and burnt up front with some subtle caramel creaminess and dark coffee with nice anise note from the yeast with light nutty malt tinges and gentle vanilla note with mild stone fruit from the yeast with dark cherry and dark sugar qualities. I liked this overall I couldn't really complain, but not the best as far as the style goes. It is a quaffable beer and I could have several without issue, nice body and flavor.

Reviewed from phone notes. Bought in 7/11 in Hong Kong for next to mix.

Pours a two finger black n tan with good lacing.

Aromas and taste of sweet roast malts, loads of chocolate and restrained bitterness to back it with.

Creamy mouthfeel, and full bodied.

Overall a real surprise in terms of taste and presence - having said that I only now realise it is not a 5% beer, but higher, explains all the flavours.

Pleasnt surprise, wishe di had bough one back in suitcase.

reviewed on my phone, so excuse weird auto corrects and shortness.

Bottle from some 7-11 type grocery store in Hong Kong... no glass to pour it in, and no fridge to cool it, so warm our of the bottle it is.

Nose is a lot of dark malt, some booze and actually some dark fruit flavors. A quick swirl brings up a quick head that doesn't die quickly at all. Looking through the green bottle, seems nice and dark, a little thinner than I was hoping, and an odd green hue... lol.
Tastes burnt. That's the first flavor I get. I am not a stranger to room temperature stouts... but this one is very burnt. Some very mild cocoa, not too much here, and hard to get over the over roasted burnt char. Little bit of a wet dog type of aftertaste...
Mouthfeel is pretty thin, but the alcohol is decently covered. Great for Hong Kong, what I have seen so far, but just an average to below average stout.

Appearance: Very dark brown, good head and lacing.

Smell: Mild, coffee aroma.

Taste: Coffee with sugar and cream. Not super strong, well balanced between sweet and bitter, with sweet probably being a little more prominent.

Drinkability: I would never guess this was 7.5%. Seems lighter than that.

Another "good" beer from the grocery store here in Hong Kong. It actually is pretty good, it is quite light in body for the ABV level. Hopefully I won't pay for it in the morning.

look: 3 | smell: 2.5 | taste: 3 | feel: 2.5 | overall: 2.5

Appearance: The stout has good color, quite a dark brown, although it could be more dense. Upon pouring, the head dissipates somewhat quickly for a stout. Upon drinking, there is a nice bit of lacing down the glass.

Smell: Very little nose with this one. Almost no aroma at all.

Taste: One of the lighter stouts I have had. The roasted flavor is in there, but it is understated. There is a cooked maltiness, bordering on the burnt coffee, but not objectionable. Not enough flavor for stout lovers, but a decent enough taste.

Mouthfeel: Pleasant but not remarkable aftertaste. This could be a good introductory stout to those who may be apprehensive about tackling some of the richer examples of the type.

Drinkability: Easy enough to drink, but not a stout that would be a first choice. Unless you are here in China, and it is your only choice.

TsingTao Beer is trumpeted in China as The Beer. I would liken their offerings to any of the big national/international breweries, in that they are famous and therefore popular because they are widely available, and widely drunk. In my opinion, this is the best beer offered by Tsingtao, but they could add a bit more flavor.

Beer was great! I have lived in Japan for almost 2 years now and like one of the other comments it is so hard to find good beer in Asia, this beer was a life saver. I had all but given up hope when this diamond in the rough came a long! With its perfect blend of hop and malt, wonderful color, smooth rich taste, with a light carbonation that to my great surprise added to the enjoyment of the beer, by blending the hop and malt flavors together perfectly. Wonderful beer. I just hope that it is not because I have not had a good stout in so long.
