First off, the gravity and ABV listed on this can was a bit lower than the 4% listed above. According to the can, this beer had 8 degrees Plato gravity and greater than 2.5% ABV. So don't worry, you aren't going to get filled up or buzzed on this one.

Appearance: Very pale yellow indeed. Almost no head, no lacing, just a few bubbles rising.

Smell: Does "fizzy water" qualify as a smell? I could detect absolutely nothing!

Taste: Surprisingly, there was a little hops there, but almost no malt!

Mouthfeel: Well, it doesn't leave a nasty aftertaste. Or any other aftertaste. To say it finishes crisp and dry would be understating this beer. Nice carbonation scrub for the palate.

Overall: There is nothing to dislike about this beer, except that there is almost nothing to like about it either. Unobtrusive is a word which comes to mind. If you're in the mood for a moderately refreshing almost-beer experience, this is the beer for you.
By the way, the name Shanshui means "mountain water" in Chinese, and this is what I'd call truth in advertising.

A- Comes in a can with the ever rare pop-top opening, which is kinda cool....nothing on the can in English other than the name and it shows to be 10 degrees plato, and equal to or greater than 4% abv. The beer itself looks pretty much like ginger ale, being very clear and light golden colored. The carbonation is noisy and doesn't produce much of a head, starting out as a thin film and fizzling out rather quickly literally to nothing....lots of big bubbles cling to the glass inside of the liquid. Looks very thin, as there is absolutely no lacing. Looks like a cheap drink is upon me here!

S- Aromas are dry and musty, just like prairie grass that hasn't seen rain in sometime. Underneath the initial smells, there is some sweet malt present and no hops whatsoever. Overall it isn't very complex in the aroma and is faint.

T- Fairly bland overall....it basically tastes like mild sweet malts and dry grass. It doesn't taste like there is any hops used, as there is no bitterness on the finish. After the swallow, there is an adjuncty profile left on the palate that tastes like I've enjoyed some boiled corn...nothing else to report here.

M- Thin, watery and bland best describe this brew. Nothing to chew on here....just a fizzy, palate scrubbing beer that is very much thirst quenching and refreshing...just nothing to write home about.

D- Highly drinkable and this is very typical of the Chinese fare. I can totally see this being a drink of choice on one of the hot muggy Chinese summer days but it is an un-amusing try at creating a decent beer. It is equivalent to any "BMC" beers out there, leaning towards the light versions of them. Still cool to get to try this beer out though and yes, if I get to China again, I'll drink this again!
