look: 4.25 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4

Appearance: pours with a smooth thickness. Tan head which was mainly present on the edges of the glass. Above average amounts of active carbonation for the style. Some dark brown color around the edges but sit black in the glass.

Smell: a large front of herbal earthy spices. Accents of cinnamon and light airy coconut. There's a light to medium bodied malt backbone. The sweet potatoes aren't too potent but add another layer of depth to the aroma.

Taste: the front is a bright and refreshing coconut. The sweetness of the coconut yields to a earthy sweet potatoes, exotic spices, and smokey malt. There is a lot going on here but everything is pretty well balanced and doesn't fight each other too much.

Mouthfeel: earthy, smooth, and really drinkable.

Overall: this beer is a handful and pipeworks continues to do a great job with different and unique styles. I had the non imperial version of this and it has grown and become a much more balanced brew.

The beer comes in a pitch black color.

The aroma has wonderful sweet potato, chocolate, but also lots Christmas spices of cinnamon and nutmeg.

The flavor also has chocolate, but is aggressively sweet potato. Not exactly that Thanksgiving sweet potato flavor, but more of an essence of that flavor. Then lots of spices as well cinnamon and nutmeg.

Something about this beer did not meld well. The potato was prominent, but the beer did not quite work.

look: 4 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

Appearance: A very stout-like pour, with a pitch black liquid capped by a beige head; nice retention and lacing

Smell: Chocolate, sweet potatoes, coconut and a variety of holiday spices

Taste: Chocolate, up front, with the sweet potatoes and coconut adding sweetness, in the middle, along with cinnamon and allspice; a little bit of cinnamon hotness lifts the palate, after the swallow; though the finish brings back the same flavors as the start

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with moderate carbonation

Overall: This is certainly one of the more creative twists on the style I have seen for quite a while; really enjoyable
