The beer comes in a pitch black color.
The aroma has wonderful sweet potato, chocolate, but also lots Christmas spices of cinnamon and nutmeg.
The flavor also has chocolate, but is aggressively sweet potato. Not exactly that Thanksgiving sweet potato flavor, but more of an essence of that flavor. Then lots of spices as well cinnamon and nutmeg.
Something about this beer did not meld well. The potato was prominent, but the beer did not quite work.

Received as an extra in a trade. Batch 219/220 (10/8/13). Poured into my Duvel tulip.
A - Pours a nice dark dark pour with a quarter inch mocha head that fades to leave a thin wispy halo and light wisps. Not much retention or lacing.
S - Aromas of chocolate, sweet potato, cinnamon. Not much coconut. Definitely smells holiday-esc.
T - Taste is nice chocolatey with some VERY VERY strong sweet potato notes smack dab after it. At first I thought "Okay, its got mild sweet potato notes" and no sooner had I thought that did the beer dump a burlap sack of sweet potatoes into my mouth. The coconut is somewhere between the chocolate and vegetables, offering some light sweetness before being beaten back into submission. The cinnamon is nice and in the background throughout with a strong sweet potato lingering taste on the finish. This...this is fun. At 9.5% it is masked wonderfully.
M - Mouthfeel is very, very lightly carbonated. Not quite flat but pretty damn close. Results in it coming off as thin instead of thick and creamy. That said the alcohol is hidden nicely.
O - So yah, this was a fun beer and possibly one of the more one sided beers I've had in a LONG time. The appearance was mediocre, the nose was lackluster all things considered, and the mouthfeel was pretty bad for the style (only saving grace was how mellow it was on the pallet). The taste though, wowzer did it deliver sweet potato. Easily the greatest representation of sweet potato in a beer out of the dozen+ I've had over the years. Well played Pipeworks, well played.
