The first batch of Imperial Jones Dog we ever brewed found its way into some Heaven Hill and Buffalo Trace barrels for 10 months and we are sure glad it did. The imperial milk stout brewed with cacao nibs and vanilla beans came out of the barrel with wonderful notes of bourbon, oak, barrel char, vanilla, coconut, dark fruits and dark chocolate. Delicious now or good to cellar in a temperature controlled environment.

Unfortunately in just a year bottle aging this beer that I'd long waited to try, it had spoiled.
Granny smith apples all the way - what a disappointment.

Fall 2018 bottle. Almost pitch black pour. Slight tan head. Smells almost a little tart/sour but tastes fine. Chocolate and fudge. Not a lot of vanilla. I think the cocoa flavor is dominate rather than the vanilla. So very smooth that hides the 13%.

November 2018 release. This takes the regular Jones Dog and kicks it square in the teeth. Gone are the slightly tart yogurt notes from the lactose, replaced by boozy heat and... well, more booze. Great barrel oak character, gently softened by the vanilla, and with nibs that show up at the very finish, inviting you to take another sip. Why, don't mind if I do.

2017 vintage. Nose is oak, dark fruit, bourbon, vanilla. Taste emphasizes dark fruit and chocolate with bourbon a heavy background presence. Very sweet, but expected for a milk stout. Mouthfeel is low end on carb but feels about right. Overall it’s clear why this is one of Pipeworks highest rated offerings.
