BEER INFO

Pipeworks Brewing Company

Style: Milk / Sweet Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 10.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
So maybe their calendar wasn't the best judge of when the world was going to end but damn, those Mayans made a mean hot chocolate. With that as our inspiration we imperialized our old friend End of Days. That means more malt, more cacao nibs, more vanilla, more cinnamon, more ancho & guajilllo peppers and more virgin sacrifices (kidding, totally kidding). The resulting brew has a big rich body, notes of dark chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon and a slight spicy kick on the finish. It is delicious right now or you could stash it away in your temperature controlled resting place until the next time the world ends.

WOW! This stole the show in a spiced stout tasting (MC, Huna, Abraxas, and Oro Negro involved). Not usually a fan of sweet/milk stouts, but this just blends so well. Was the star of the show for me with the heat from the peppers strong up front and the other additions taking a back seat and coming through on back-end. This is contrary to the runner-up for me in MC where the heat followed everything else. Kicking myself for not getting more than one bottle of this as it was fantastic.

As u pour u can see the chocolatyness, strong spice. Vanilla on the tongue. Cinnamon is the initial taste. A very intense beer. The after math is the best part! The flavors finally blend and u get the taste of hot chocolate and are left with a nice warm feeling of cozy comfort

(Served in a nonic)
A- This beer pours a jet black body with a tan head that is full of big bubbles but last a good bit.

S- The nougat chocolate hint is followed by some mellow cinnamon notes, but otherwise pretty clean.

T- The creamy blend of vanilla and cream with some nice chili spice in the finish has a soft cherry ester hint to it. There is a roasted black malt flavor that is mellow but grows as the beer opens.

M- This beer has a medium-light mouthfeel with a slippery texture and no alcohol heat.

O- Although the nose is soft it is nice and there is much more depth in the flavor. The cream and vanilla with milk stout and chiles is supported by chocolate and cinnamon that just stay in the background. The blend of flavors really work well together with nothing out of place.

Seriously underrated IMO. This is a great stout and the ancho chille taste on the back of throat as it finishes is awesome. I wish it had a little more heat actually. Expected nothing less of pdub.

I thought this beer was delicious. The smell is strong vanilla and a touch of cinnamon. First sip was very good you can really taste the vanilla, cacao, and that little bit of lingering heat fits perfectly. A heavy mouth feel but not overly chewy.

If they barrel age this it will be one of their best.

Initial rating of a 3.6 from a bottle that I aged for 7-8 months. Had a strange black olive taste.

More recent bottle drank fresh is much, much better. Nice heat from the chilis. Cocao and vanilla are present. A lot closer to Mexican cake.

A - Pours black with a thin tan head.
S - Smells like a dark café mocha with cinnamon.
T - Initially the dark chocolate and cinnamon is dominant and then the peppers bite your throat.
M - Creamy
O - Another good brew from Pipeworks. I'd prefer this in the winter rather than June.

Pours motor oil black with a similar viscosity, zero head to speak of and appears a bit thin.

Milk and dark chocolate, light vanilla sweetness, cinnamon, roasty, and a slightly pronounced peppery heat.

Chocolate and bitter roast flavors come out up front, but are immediately subdued by wave of sweet vanilla, cinnamon, and spicy chili peppers.

Heavy-bodied, low carbonation, rich, slick, slightly chewy, spicy.

Overall, I was admittedly not sure how much I was going to enjoy this not being a fan of pepper beers, but the heat is overall rather subtle and there is nice complexity of other flavors and aromas to keep it from being overpowering.
