So maybe their calendar wasn't the best judge of when the world was going to end but damn, those Mayans made a mean hot chocolate. With that as our inspiration we imperialized our old friend End of Days. That means more malt, more cacao nibs, more vanilla, more cinnamon, more ancho & guajilllo peppers and more virgin sacrifices (kidding, totally kidding). The resulting brew has a big rich body, notes of dark chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon and a slight spicy kick on the finish. It is delicious right now or you could stash it away in your temperature controlled resting place until the next time the world ends.

Batch 253 254

A-dark appearance, very little carbonation, no head.

S-this beer had a strong, sweet, milky smell to it. it may have been all in my head but i struggled to get past that smell. it also had a hint of vanilla to it.

T-the taste was sweet but not as sweet as the smell. very subtle hint of peppers up front that quickly disappeared. you can taste most of the stated ingredients (chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla) but they don't seem to mesh well in this beer.

M-just about right for a stout, not extreme in any way.

O-this was the first Pipeworks beer i've ever tried. it was tough for me to get past the smell. the beer seemed very unbalanced with flavors all over the place and not in a good way. i wish it had a little more pepper to it and less milky sweetness.

22oz bottle from Tanger112 (thanks man!). No bottling date but this is batch 365/66/67 with a 2014 copyright on the bottle despite it's original release in late 2013. Served in a goblet.

Pours near-black cola brown with two and a half fingers of pale tan head. Bubbles quickly settle to a thin ring and leave only a few small spots of lace.

Aromas of chocolate, cinnamon, chilies, sweet cream and roasted grains.

Taste follows the nose. Cinnamon sugar, chili pepper flavor without the heat, chocolate, roasty malt, soft vanilla, trace pepper heat and a whisper of alcohol. A nice enough blend with all the advertised flavors present but there seems to be something lacking.

Moderately creamy, medium feel with soft carbonation. Finishes with an earthy sweetness of cocoa, vanilla and vague spice.

A delicious Mexican style imperial stout that doesn't quite reach the heights of Abraxas or Mexican Cake, let alone Hunahpu. A tad too thin and the flavors, while tasty, are a bit muddled to really elevate it. Still great and I'd happily drink more any time.
