I read the other reviews, take it for what it's worth. Hops are evident in the taste, I love Pipeworks, but this to me tastes
Overwhelmingly like the codeine cough syrup I used to take as a child. Not recommended. I need at least 250 characters so blahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblah.

22 oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. Batch #279 - 288 printed on the label. Another new creation from the masters at Pipeworks; expectations are fairly high based on this knowledge.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - Oh wow, what a color! It pours out a dark bloody ruby red wine color; opaque in the glass, with about two fingers of fluffy soapy strawberry cream colored head. My god, this thing looks pretty damn unique and tasty!

S - Smell is comprised of tart berries, some jammy sort of smells, Belgian yeast, some funk, some must, & some bubblegum. The black raspberry smells that come through are very authentic. Creamy, piney, and earthy from the Nelson sauvin hops used here.

T - Taste is of sweet fruity authentic jammy raspberry / blackberry / strawberry / berry fruitiness. Creamy, earthy, citric hop bitterness from the Nelson sauvin hops. Vinous & grapey. A bit medicinal.

M - Feel is lightly tart and medicinal, with a dry wine like finish. Some minor alcohol fumes noticeable, but it doesn't feel like 10.00% abv. Medium-full bodied with good carbonation.

Overall, another nice beer from Pipeworks. The black raspberries really shine here, and the Nelson Sauvin hops add a delightful and familiar touch. I don't want to say that this turned out better than the Pipeworks Brother Blue Beardo, but the black raspberries definitely seem to come through in flavor much better than the blueberries did. Recommended if you can snag a bottle.

Appearance: Pours with dark ruby red color very similar to a red wine. Light head on the pour with a lighter purple color. Very low active carbonation in the glass while drinking. Really unique looking brew.

Smell: The front is an extremely complex mixture of belgian spice, raspberries, and nelson sauvin hops. The raspberries provide a puckering sweetness which really stands outs on a background of earthy, grassy hops and potent but not overpowering spices. The hops continue to open up with robust rustic tones but more of the fruitiness begins to really get picked up toward the back end of the aroma. Really complex and different.

Taste: Big potent beer. Definitely get the nelson sauvin hops up front with the black raspberries providing a sour, rustic notes. The red wine flavor characteristics carry throughout the body. The belgian characteristics seem to get lost a bit but are noticed toward the back end of the beer with yeasty, spiced tones. The acidity of the black raspberries is noticeable but kept in check to continue to let the other characteristics shine through.

Mouthfeel: The sweetness of the fruit balances well with the dry rustic tones. Nelson Sauvin hops are always so complex on the mouthfeel.

Overall: This fruit infused, hopped up, belgian brew went over much better then PW last attempt with Brother Blue Beardo. The acidity of the raspberries is very well dealt with and the complex of the Nelson Sauvin hops play along well. Highly recommended for a wine fan looking for a beer to drink.
