BEER INFO

Brewed by:
Pipeworks Brewing Company
Illinois, United States | website

Style: American Double / Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 10.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
S'more Money S'more Problems came out of the brain of Friends With Benefits member Keith Lonergan. With Keith's help we mashed this behemoth in with copious amounts of chocolate malt, roasted barley, golden naked oats and crushed graham crackers. Then, after primary fermentation was finished we added cacao nibs, vanilla bean and natural marshmallow flavor. The resulting beer is a big, chewy, dark nectar reminiscent of our days in Cub Scouts; sitting around the campfire, drinking imperial stouts. Great now or after a prolonged camping trip in the back of your temperature controlled bottle camp site.

Pours black with almost no head and carbonation. Smells of chocolate malt.
Taste the hop, but not much more. Maybe doesn't go with cigar. I was expecting mich more. I think I got an infected one.

A- Pitch black, mocha medium lacing with medium legs. Nice and thick, gums up the glass when swirled around.

S- Nice campfire s'mores taste here. Really great chocolate malty backbone giving tons of body to this thick brew. Marshmallow and graham cracker are noticeable, but not overbearing.

T- Follows the nose to a T here.

M- Nice and thick. Smooth! Minimal carb that totally works with this non-ba stout.

O- I don't usually like Pipeworks, but this one I for sure did!

Thanks to Jerry for this one. 22oz. capped bomber into a Cigar City snifter. Shared with schen9303.

Pours pitch black but looks a touch thin. A thin, light mocha colored head that dissipates quickly. Lacing is non-existent with huge, oily legs. Pretty good. Menacing.

Nose is graham cracker, fudge, brownie and chocolate. Bready with some sweet vanilla overtones. Solid.

Opens chocolate, cinnamon, graham cracker, fudge brownie and vanilla sweetness. Some cocoa powder in the middle with a hint of prunes and liquorice. More fudge and chocolate towards the end with a mellow, slightly medicinal flavor. Aftertaste is lightly tart cocoa powder and more chocolate sweetness. Decent if a little awkward. Definitely doesn't taste like smores.

Full bodied with low carbonation. Slick, oily but a bit carbonated in the mouth and goes down smooth and rich. Finishes messy with a lingering, filmy aftertaste. Appropriate.

A pretty weird beer overall. Flavor is decent with heavy doses of chocolate and vanilla but there's something odd here that I can't quite put my finger on. Unique for sure and worth seeking out if you're looking for something a little different.

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Black with a brief but substantial khaki head. Thick collar. Wispy surface.

Smell - Marshmallow and dark chocolate. Light spicy aroma.

Taste - Dark chocolate. Lightens up with the marshmallow flavor, which almost lends a fruitiness. Finishes with a kind of artificial sweetness.

Mouthfeel - Seems very sweet but not a very heavy body. Medium carbonation.

Overall - Very artificial. Didn't bother me at first, but after a while it was cloying.
