Notes/Commercial Description:
An open slot on the brew schedule means that there is space to get creative and make something weird. Gerrit, because he has a strong, deep, passionate love for chocolate covered pretzels, decided to make a beer that was chocolatey, rich, and subtly salty, just like the object of his affection. He concocted up a recipe that included smoked malt, lots of chocolate malt, and even pretzels in the mash. It was one seriously good smelling day in the brewhouse. "Weirdo" is definitely this beer's middle name

Pours viscous, dark black in color with a thin tan head that retains nicely.

Smell has some really nice light smokey aromas before a good amount of sweet chocolate and chocolate malt come in. Smells pretty sweet and there is a hint of dough like aromas near the end that I'm assuming is from the pretzels however it is hard to detect.

Taste is much more malt forward then the nose. There is a very slight fleeting charred malt that comes through followed by a smokey flavor and a moderate amount of sweetness. Finish has a nice salty presence that works surprisingly well with the other bold flavors.

Mouthfeel is good. Really thick, mildly carbonated, well balanced. Big stickiness from the malt is cut nicely with the salt.

Wonderful complexity for a porter. Thick mouthfeel. Smokey, slightly sweet. Dark chocolate and a hint of salt. Comparing this to similar beers such as imperial doughnut break it holds up very well. This is smooth and gives no hint of its 9.5% abv. I'm ordering more.

A: Really dark in color with small to no head. Really nice lacing that slowly comes down the glass.

S: Upfront I get a lot of the chocolate then fades to a slight smokiness. Without knowing it was brewed with pretzels I'm not sure I would pick it up but when looking for it I can get a bit of that bready pretzel aroma. All in all a really nice aromatic beer.

T: Nice smoked notes upfront but not overpowering at all. After the smoke you get some chocolate, dark fruit, and alcohol. Not really any pretzel but tasty still.

M: Really nice slick and oily texture with a full body. Slight sweetness but as expected.
