22 oz. bottle, with Batch #342-343 printed on the label. Another new beer to me from Pipeworks, and my first encounter with one of their wee heavy / Scotch ales.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - Pours a deep dark mahogany brown; opaque in the glass with one finger of beige cream head. Some thin spotty lacing. Looks alright.

S - Smell does have a lot going on, but it's a little strange. Indistinct hoppy fruits, maple syrup, toasted brown bread, mild alcohol presence, and some nuttiness, but nothing distinctly screams "walnut" at me. Light smokiness, also.

T - Taste follows the nose - lots of roasty malt, toasted brown bread, earthy nuttiness, woodsy, some maple syrup presence, & light dark fruit presence.

M - Feel is smooth and creamy, filling and full-bodied with low lying carbonation. Sticky and nutty / malty on the finish.

Overall, not my favorite outing from Pipeworks, and not my favorite example of the style. Nice enough for what it was, and the 9.00% abv is well-masked but I wouldn't want it again.

Appearance: dark mahogany color. Completely opaque. A finger of a tannish head that added fairly quickly and leaves a small lacing.

Smell: strong sweet caramel malts. Maybe some coffee. Strong walnut.

Taste: malts come out with a toffee and caramel taste. Some malty nuttiness. Big walnut taste comes through.

Mouthfeel: fairly smooth. Good medium to full body. Good sweetness without being cloying

Overall: good wee heavy with some strong walnut taste. Solid offering from pipeworks.

look: 3.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.75

Appearance: Sits black in the glass but pours a dark brown color. Low carbonation, thin layer sat on the edge of the glass while drinking.

Smell: Nose is filled with toffee and chocolate. A unique almond aroma certainly makes itself known on the body. Slightly smokey with tones of oak also seem to be present on the back end. Maple syrup sweetness rounds out the aroma.

Taste: A semi sweet malt body greets the palate. Roasted, nutty almonds have a dry feeling in the body and are surprisingly potent. Sweet molasses and maple syrup lighten this brew up on the finish.

Mouthfeel: Easy drinker at 9%. Carbonation seems to fit the brew. Overall malt presence seems to be a tad thin. Nutty body provides some dryness with some sweetness finishing out the back end.

Overall: Well, Pdubs never makes a dull brew. The almonds are really uniquely present. Unfortunately, lot of the traditional Wee Heavy tones that I enjoyed in Last Kiss seem to get lost. Something worth a try if you are looking for a one of the kind brew.
