Easter Bunny Vs UnicornEaster Bunny Vs Unicorn
BEER INFO

Brewed by:
Pipeworks Brewing Company
Illinois, United States | website

Style: Wheatwine

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 10.00%

Availability: Spring

Notes / Commercial Description:
The unsuspecting unicorn was decorating eggs, when out of NO HARE, he heard "Your ass is artificial grass!". Before The Unicorn could get a peep, the Easter Bunny, in a ball of furry, attacked with kung (bunny fu) foo carrot-y chops. The Unicorn whipped the hare back and forth, fighting Bunny's intense hop kick with a wheat wine. Don't worry. The Easter Bunny was charged with Energizer battery. The Unicorn will live to dye another day!

All puns aside, we've changed up the recipe on this batch of Easter Bunny vs Unicorn. It's fuller in body, with more wheat. We've also added Hallerteau Blanc hops to the dry hop. It's delicious!

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a Pipeworks Brewing Company branded snifter

Pours mostly amber with some a bit of orangish accents here and there. Tropical fruit and citrus on the nose; hints of caramel as it warms. Opens with mandarin orange, tangerine, pineapple, and hints of mango. Caramel shows up midpalate with some soapiness and wheat cracker notes. Low level of carbonation, full body, smooth with a touch of silkiness. A hop bomb, for sure. This brew has just as much in common with most DIPA's as it does with other wheatwines.

Copper clear pour. Cascading uprush of hop excitement. Neat to watch- for the moment.

Big hop rush and floral. Candied sweetness. A bit weedy and pithy grapefruit.

It's all hop and deep bready sweetness malt. It's like chewing on a hop cone. Alcohol boisterous on the back end, maybe too much booze sensual influence.

On the thicker side and deep rich malt and hop lingering.

An American strong for sure and a rich wheat malt make this the wine. Sitting on the fence tween Barleywine and DIPA. Expect richness and depth. Big on hop and 'Big' on booze to confound your session. You not cuuurushing this.

The nose resembles that of a barleywine as it presents a very malty aroma with some chocolate malt, dark fruit and a fruity hop tone.

The flavor is a wheat wine, literally wheat and wine. There's a light hop bitterness before it becomes malty with caramel. It finishes with honey and some fruity hop tones of grapefruit, tangerines and orange.

Certainly different and unusual but definitely tasty and worthwhile.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a Collins glass.

Look is a hazy Amber with a thin light head.

Lots of toasted caramel on the nose.

Aggressively hopped initially but giving way to a toasted caramel sweetness. The extreme contrast between the two really ends up with a balanced beer.

Delicious.

Hoppy boozy fruits in a creamy malt base, full of bitterness; herbal notes accent the hops, and counter the sugars from the malt. Pretty full on the body, relatively dense, but still smooth and caramel soft. Pipeworks keeps hitting them out of the park.

22 oz. bottle, with Batch #371-374 printed on the label. Yet another new holiday seasonal beer from Pipeworks. My first wheatwine from these guys, so I am not sure of what to expect at all.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - Pours a typical burnt sienna orange / ruby colored body with maybe the tiniest bit of sediment noticeable. A finger of creamy frothy khaki head. Thin spotty lacing. It doesn't look too much different than their regular DIPA / barleywine fare.

S - Smell has the aroma of a lot of the bigger Pipeworks' DIPAs - grapefruit, rinds, soapiness, mild alcohol fumes, bready malt presence.

T - Taste follows the nose - bitter grapefruit / orange hop presence takes the front seat, with some bready / caramel malts in the background. Mild alcohol fumes. Tastes more like a DIPA to me than some of the other wheatwines I've tried, but I'm all for switching things up.

M - Feel is smooth and creamy, medium bodied with good carbonation.

Overall, another nice one from Pipeworks. Not entirely sure how authentic this remains to the style, but it suits me well enough, and fits in well with the rest of the 'Ninja vs. Unicorn' beer series. Recommended, but probably not one I would try again.
