Notes/Commercial Description:
"I don't think these aliens are thaaat bad. What's that you ask? They don't like you? They keep trying to abduct you? I mean maybe we've all just been brainwashed by Hollywood alien invasion movies and the Pipeworks Abduction series into thinking aliens just want to abduct us. Has anyone even tried to talk to them? Here, I'll go bring them a Pipeworks Mocha Imperial Stout with coffee and rich chocolate. This beer is amazing. Yeah, and then I'll make small talk about the new Star Wars trailer."

22oz Bomber
Route 6 Liquor's - Channahon

Mocha Abduction sports your standard black as the ace of spades imperial stout body. A stiff pour produces a Guinness-like cascade effect and the bubbles continue replenishing the head throughout. The foam, appropriately, is mocha colored and although it falls to a skim coat over time the ring around the glass is thick and quick to leave lace.

The nose shows strong coffee grounds off the bat but quickly following is a, not totally off putting, artificial hazelnut creamer sweetness. A drizzle of cream hits in the middle before freshly brewed, roasty coffee takes over, which is more of what I was hoping for along with cocoa powder Roasty barley pulls through toward the back and there's a touch of honey sweetness on the backend. The coffee dominates while the other aspects are simply compliments.

Freshly brewed coffee, again, dominates. It's big and rich upfront, fading slightly but managing to make it through the finish. That artificial hazelnut creamer comes through again mid-palate and I can't say I'm too fond of that aspect. Cocoa powder and roasty barley bring up the finish, managing to make up for the artificial aspects. I like the flavor, the coffee and roast work well. It's a little overly sweet though and I could do without that hazelnut creamer.

The body has a weight just above moderate and a frothiness I enjoy. The carbonation is near prickly, keeping any residual sugars from sticking around for too long. A whisper of alcohol rises through the back of the throat and nose. The long finish is a bit chalky after the swallow.

Mocha Abduction is a solid beer from Pipeworks. It's a little sweeter than I'd appreciate, like most Pipeworks beers, and the hazelnut, lactic note seems artificial but the coffee and cocoa notes are spot on. I don't think I would pick this up again but I'm glad to be drinking it now.

Pours a diesel thick opaque black with a very thin caramel brown head.

Heavy on the dark chocolate, roasted malt nuttiness, and espresso.

A little too heavy on the chocolate, roasted malts are lacking, and coffee is dull.

Mouthfeel is thick on the heavy, like sipping a chocolate malt.

Overall this is decent, but I feel could have been better.

Thanks to Aaron for sharing this one!

Inky black with a naturally mocha tan tint to the foam on top. Flecks of spotty lacing around the edges.

Big vanilla and coffee aromas, slightly sweet with a coffee brownie impression.

Similar flavors, flavored coffee, mocha and vanilla notes are spot on. Light coffee bitterness, fudgy chocolate, lingering charred malt. Sticky on the lips. Body seems a little thinner due to the coffee addition. Overall it tastes great, definitely worth a try.

22 oz. bottle, with Batch #435/36/37 printed on the label. The latest Abduction stout variant from the masters at Pipeworks. Expectations are amazing based on this knowledge. Good thing I'm here to pick up the slack for all these non-reviewers.

Poured into a Duvel tulip.

A - Pours a dark fudgey chocolate brown, nearly opaque in the glass with some brown hues showing around the edges. A finger and a half of mocha head that thins to a ring rather quickly. Scattered sticky spotty lacing on the glass. Definitely looks like a coffee beer, very nice.

S - Freshly brewed coffee / spent coffee grounds are very apparent on this one. Cacao, vanilla, cream, mild lactose, & mild alcohol fumes are also noticeable.

T - The taste follows the nose - delicious authentic roasted coffee beans / coffee ground bitterness, powdery chocolate / cacao, creamy vanilla / mild lactose, and some mild alcohol presence. Delicious.

M - The feel is creamy , sticky, and smooth with good roasty coffee bitterness clinging to the palate.

Overall, another delicious stout variant from Pipeworks. Not the greatest rendition of this beer, but very delicious nonetheless. Very coffee forward, almost Surly Coffee Bender status. Highly recommended.
