This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

We brewed this red ale with blood orange to celebrate our pal's Harebrained! Design's success with their Kickstarter to make some very funny, clever, "Period Panties" featuring characters such as Rainbo (a Ranbo-esque unicorn out for blood). The beer is tastes great. It's a crisp summer sipper, with a nice citrus kick.

Pours a dark red-orange with a slightly rust tinged head of foam.

Orange, caramel, biscuits, and some herbal notes.

Taste definitely falls off here, citrus, bready/biscuity notes, and some caramel notes to add, but nothing outstanding.

Light-medium bodied, medium carbonation, sticky, biscuity, sweet finish.

Overall, I have to admit I was slightly put off by the label, but decent.

22 oz. bottle, with Batch #426/427 printed on the label. The latest in a string of strange and seemingly pointless collaboration beers from Pipeworks - this one brewed with Harebrained (?) and brewed with blood orange, I suppose. Expectations for the beer itself are high.

Poured into a Duvel tulip glass.

A - Pours a dark ruby-orange colored body with three fingers of fluffy frothy tan head with some nice staying power for the high abv. Not extraordinary, but it looks nice.

S - The smell is a bit fainter than I would have imagined, but consists of some bready caramel malt, some slight peppery rye sort of spice, earthy herbal character, and some fruity citrus imparted from the oranges. An okay aroma, but far lighter than most of Pipeworks' beers.

T - Taste is more on the malt side of things also - caramel malt & some bready peppery rye presence integreated with light but authentic citrusy blood oranges.

M - Feel is smooth & creamy, medium-bodied with good carbonation. Goes down nice for the high 9.00% abv.

Overall, not Pipeworks' best effort, but for a style as mundane as a red ale, it definitely has a lot going for it. Recommended if you can get your hands on it.

650ml bottle, poured into a Cigar City snifter 7/27/2014.

A- Dark orange-red body, two finger tan head with fine retention, no lacing.

S- Blood orange juice, bready caramel malt, some more citrus (hops perhaps), hints of earthiness.

F- Strong caramel malt, bready, with a fair bit of blood orange flavours. Not particularly complex, but it accomplishes what it sets out to do.

M- Medium bodied, good carbonation, fairly smooth, slightly boozy.

O- Pretty decent and interesting beer, seems like something someone in Florida would make. Maybe I'm thinking of More Moro. If the base really is a red ale, they sure did some good stuff with the blood oranges.

Pours amber in color with a deep wood brown hue. Head is thin and frothy and retains nicely.

Smell has lots of malt aromas forward. Lots of sweet caramel malt and richer huskier malt aromas in the first half before some mango and passion fruit hop aromas balance the sweet malt.

Taste follows the nose with lots of caramel, grainy, and husky malt forward along with some some fruity hop flavors and a moderate alcohol presence. Fruity orange Sweetness is balanced with a mild piney and citrus like hop flavor in the finish.

Mouthfeel is good. Slightly lighter then expected but hop oils, sweetness and mild carbonation help balance it nicely.
