Sometimes even the deadliest shadow warriors need a break from fighting life's epic battles. Just like you, they need to unwind their nunchucks, kick off their ol' work booties, punch out on the punching bag, and get a good death grip on life's simple pleasures, like a delicate saison generously hopped with Citra hops.

this is groovy beer, but dont be fooled by the label, and the nonchalance of the wording on it and the imagery, while this is a refreshing saison indeed, at 9% abv, i cant imagine it makes much of a beach beer, or that it would be a real long day in the sun drinking these for thirst quenching. hazy blonde lively sunny looking stuff, well carbonated and cloudy like a hefe. the nose is all citra, really fresh and juicy and intensely fruity in that regard, with only a faint white pepper spice character from the saison yeast, more belgian than anything, but i blame the hops in this one in part at least for that. the flavor is a little less hoppy, well, its still hoppy, vibrant and delicious, but more balanced than the nose. the fruit is died down a little in the taste and the yeast brings it under further control, but this tastes and feels awfully light for its abv, i mean, way too easy drinking for 9%, and pleasingly dry, but when i think about this next to a new world type belgian tripel, its not all that different, more yeast funk, less residual sugar, but thats about it. fantastic beer, i have not had nearly enough stuff from these guys!

A - Pours a hazy dark golden color with big bubbly head that settles quickly.
S - Typical saison aroma - yeastsy and earthy.
T - Flavor follows the nose with the addition of a little citrus.
M - Light mouth feel, high carbonation, crisp & dry.
O - This is a good saison. Only change I'd make would be to boost the citrus component a bit more.

Pours golden yellow with a slight haze, tons of frothy pure white foam.

Orange, lemon, lime, and some yeasty funk.

Melon, alcohol, lime, orange, and some spice.

Light-bodied, heavy carbonation, dry, spice, and very boozy.

Overall, a nice saison, but certainly not Pdub's greatest brew. Nice though

750 ml bottle, with Batch #463/464 printed on the label. The new Citra hopped saison creation from the geniuses at Pipeworks; expectations are great based on this knowledge.

Poured into a Duvel tulip glass.

A - It pours a beautiful bright golden orange-yellow colored body with three big fluffy fingers of white head. Leaves some okay spotty lacing on the glass. Looks very juicy and delicious.

S - The aroma is fairly simple, but hits it's mark. Fresh, juicy, herbal, & citrusy. Some white pepper, pineapple, yeast, and clove spice are noticeable also. Again, not a terribly complex aroma, but it smells great.

T - The taste follows the nose - juicy & citrusy. Notes of grapefruit, pineapple, & blood orange. Some peppery / clove / yeasty elements to the mix also.

M - The feel is extremely smooth, creamy, & juicy. Medium-light bodied with excellent carbonation. A very easy drinking beer at 9.00% abv.

Overall, it is yet another delicious saison / beer invention from Pipeworks. These guys seldom disappoint, and this beer was everything I was expecting it would be. A delicious twist on the traditional saison by Pipeworks, highly recommended if it is available to you.

The beer looks good and has a nice mouthfeel, but it is pretty boozey in the aroma and flavor. The booze profile makes the beer taste and smell very bready and skunky which hides all that goodness of the Citra hops. I really dig my saisons, I really dig citra hops; so this should be a home run for Pipeworks, but unfortunately Pipeworks just cant make this saison turn out very well. I was pretty disappointed with this beer. It got drain poured... It wasn't even remotely close to a saison.

Looks great. Pours a lovely light gold color and smells even better. There's that seductive citra scent - grapefruit and pineapple. But the taste and mouthfeel don't live up to the presentation. While the citrus comes thru, there's an oh so slight metallic quality and a somewhat thin mouthfeel. I love Pipeworks and am always eager to try their beers, but this is probably the first of their beers I won't go back to.

Had this on 2015-02-12 in Columbia, PA. Note, the ABV listed on this bottle is 7.5%; not 9.0%. They must have dropped the ABV since this brew was added last July.

A - Moderately-hazy gold with an initial 3-finger white head that drops to 1/2-finger pretty quickly leaving mild lace.

S - Big aromas of yeast, grapefruit, gooseberry, a touch of passion fruit and perfume. Very nice.

T - Grassy spice, pepper, biscuit, wheat, mild Belgian yeast, grapefruit flesh. Finishes very dry with a good balance between the residual fruit/spice/bitterness flavors.

M - Light-medium body and medium-heavy carbonation. Crisp and refreshing.

O - A very nice, brew with enjoyable, well-balanced flavors.

Fairly hazy pale yellow in color. Forms an enormous, white, bubbly that sticks around for quite a while leaving lots of lace on the way down. Aroma is a blend of citrus, orange, yeasty esters, alcohol. Taste is rather alcoholic. There is some slightly sweet citrus and a hint of tropical fruit in the mix, but I'm really getting a lot of spicy alcohol. Far too much for the style. Medium bodied. Medium-heavy carbonation. Moderate bitterness.
This is a good first try for this beer, but I think the alcohol needs to be toned down and the Citra turned up (though toning down the alcohol will likely allow the citra to shine through). I'd also note I had the opportunity to try this one out of the fermenter and I don't recall it being so alcoholic.

Pours hazy golden straw in color with a big fluffy head that retains nicely. Smell has aromas of citrus pine and cut grass. Some mild hay and Belgian phenols come near the end. Taste has muh juicier hop flavors then then the nose with notes of orange grapefruit and some pith flavors forward. Moderately sweet grainy malt follows with some Belgian spice flavors. Mouthfeel is medium to light bodied with moderate amount a of carbonation and a dry midsection and finish.
