Yes! It's finally happened. Man, we love this hop. Tons of unique flavors and aromas (now, we've never had a gooseberry, but we're SURE this hop is packed with gooseberry aromas). This Imperial IPA was brewed with single hop additions of New Zealand Nelson Sauvin, and whoa, it's real good.

22 oz. Bomber
Pours a very nice slightly cloudy dark golden yellow color, very nice carbonation, with a very nice thick/creamy one-finger white head, which leaves some really nice thick/creamy sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, slightly malty, with a very nice citrus/pine note. The taste is really nice, hoppy, nice little malt note, very nice touch of citrus/pine notes. Medium body, with a nice little chewyness, with a nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, this is a really tasty brew, surprised me for sure with all the talk about this brewery. Recommended!

L - golden, slight haze, small head
S - orange, honey
T - more honey, even sweeter than most pipeworks beers, biscuity malt, raisin
F - medium bodied, well carbonated, slight burn
O - overall tasty and surprisingly drinkable, but I couldn't find a date on the bottle and I wonder if that's why some of the brighter hop flavors I associate with Nelson were missing, and maybe this was a little sweet and ABV heavy for me

A hazy orange pour with a large head and good lacing with retention. Aroma is sweet and citrusy with some sour cherry. Taste is sweet on the finish and very very smooth. Great drink!

22oz bottle poured into a tulip.
Look. It pours a hazy orange with a couple finger head on a gentle pour.
Smell. Okay it smells pretty sweet, not much citrus but almost cherry or grape sweet.
Taste. Well I would say this is interesting as it is really very drinkable with some fruit sweetness again coming through and a finish that gives you the only indication it is 10%. This was not what I typically look for in an IIPA but this works for me.
Feel. It is medium bodied and very smooth.
Over all. I am not sure if I have ever had a single Nelson hopped beer but this wa very tasty and I would not hesitate to get it again. It is unique as well

Pipeworks Nelson Sauvin
A: This version of the series formerly known as "Ninja" pours, like the others, a lighter golden orange with mild haze. The head, while somewhat small at only one-and-a-half fingers, is the beautiful color of virgin snow. Lacing is disappointing. This is good, not great. 3.75/5
A: Classic Nelson hop character is surprisingly not as obvious as one would hope. Golden raisins and passion fruit are the distinct notes associated with the hop, but there is none of the dankness to be found that one associates with Nelson. Lots of mango and even some grapefruit do show up as it warms. More classic white wine and dank character would be nice since they are hallmarks of the hop, but what is here is nice and juicy smelling. 4.25/5
T: Again, lots of juicy fruit, particularly passion and mango up front again. Some orange sneaks in along with mildly bitter grapefruit. Again, a strange lacking in the classic white wine and dank, green flavors. It also suffers from being too high in alcohol, with a just a little acetone and alcohol in the back end, not to mention the sweetness that this reviewer likes kept to a minimum. Tasty but flawed. In a word, disappointing, based on expectations from the hop used. 3.5/5
M: The mouthfeel is a pleasant, medium fullness, almost creamy. Bitterness is at a perfect level. The finish is marred by heat, however, and the beer does not dry out as much as it should due to the sweetness. Average. 3.25/5
O: This was a huge disappointment. While it is a good beer, nothing about it lives up to what it could have been. Further, it falls to the same issues that all IIPAs but the Fish Series from Pipeworks falls victim to: too high of an ABV. PW could really do with following the NvU in cans model and lowering the ABV on the entire "Ninja" series. Nelson Sauvin hops are my personal favorite, and this beer really does not hit the main notes that the hop normally does; maybe it was a bad crop; either way it probably is not Pipeworks's fault, but that does not excuse the shortcomings of the beer. To reiterate, this is a solid offering, but does not show Pipeworks or Nelson Sauvin in a particularly flattering light. Pair with Periphery's newest release, "Peiphery III: Select Difficulty." 3.25/5
