4oz pour from Pipeworks "Tales from the Oak" tasting today.
The revival is a copper brown body with short lasting head. Smells of caramel, toffee, coconut, generic fruitiness, and hint of oranges. Taste is much the same...rich with loads of bourbon, oak, caramel, coconut, and toffee. The mouthfeel is pretty smooth without much booze presence. Really this is a fantastic barrel aged wheatwine. One of the better examples of the style and Pipeworks barrel aging finesse really takes the base beer to the next level.

2015 vintage pulled from my climate controlled cellar. Tasted in a Rastal Teku from a 1 pint 6 fl oz bottle on March 9, 2020. Batch # 377/378. Bourbon barrel aged wheat wine made with orange and spices.

This is tough to rate to any style, given that it's clearly trying to be a spiced cider. The orange peel, cinnamon, and other spices make this an excellent, and boozy, mulled wassail of a beer. The barrel treatment is lovely, adding a perfect amount of booze, oak, and punching up the original base beer to 13%. That said, this is too much cinnamon for me personally; I love the experimentation and that this exists, but I had half a glass and passed the rest to my partner to enjoy more than I would.

Thanks to HIGHPA for this 22 oz. bottle. I dig the artwork & the Hyper Dog before this one, so I have more incoming. Can’t wait to judge whether these guys have one of the better barrel programs. Split with my wife.
The pour is reddish brown sludge, not at all what I was expecting, with zero head. I’ve never enjoyed that. And now I know what Dune’s Melange spice smells like: cinnamon!! I get a touch of barrel & orange, but would have guessed something other than bourbon. I suspect olfactory damage from the Cinnabon.
The Revival is an appropriate salute to the just passed Billy Graham, whatever one might think of him. Me, I’m thinking about how I’m going to get the cinnamon & orange marmalade out of my oral cavity. Just like the smell, cinnamon is huge, & cut oddly by the solid orange. The barrel is lovely: hard alcohol in the back of the throat moves right along to warm the stomach on a snowy February night. I should have mulled this (without the cinnamon sticks – egads).
This projects more as a mixed drink than a beer, & really ought to be sipped out of a martini glass. A boozy mess of a beer that’s still a good beer.
