Big thanks to Sc0pey for opening this one to share during our trade. Reviewed from notes. Poured from waxed bomber into a CCB snifter at the tasting room.
A: Very dark brown with a thin tan head and a few stray bubble of visible carbonation.
S: Roast coffee, vanilla, some cacao, some brown-roasted malts. Some alcohol on the nose becomes more evident as it warms. Overall impression is pretty sweet.
T: Coffee, vanilla, dark chocolate, with hints of nuttiness and the cardboard flavor I get from a lot of brown malt-dominant beers. Finish is drier than expected.
M: Light body for a double stout. I thought when I was writing notes that this was a coffee stout, and considered the mouthfeel average for that style. Alcohol noticeable but doesn't detract. Low carbonation sensation.
O: Not bad for a big coffee beer, but there are better examples out there. Still very glad to have tried it, and I wouldn't refuse another.
