Tasted with the group, side-by-side with the other three Pipeworks Berliners. 1/4. This one pours a murky, apple-juice color with a light yellow-gold tint in the very center. Head wisps away into nothing within a few seconds. Aroma is very tart and tantalizing on the nostrils; nice heaps of apples, apple skins, lemon, and sharp citrus blasts back and forth. The smell is actually quite "full" for being a 3.5% ABV Berliner. Smells very refreshing and easy-going.

The taste comes out just as expected - nice, juicy green apple and apple skins that are lightly sour, but not tart enough to cause puckering - just enough to get those saliva glands excited, then keep them holstered. Flavors follow up with lemon, lemon zest, lemon-lime - mildly akin to a Sprite in beer form, though much better. The finish is crisp with some lasting sour fruit notes, mainly apple and lemon, a bit of which have turned into a refreshing sweetness. Very light bodied, to be expected, medium-high carbonation.

Such an easy drinking and refreshing beer, yet packed pretty well with aroma and flavor given its low alcoholic content. I could put down a bunch of these and still be feeling fine. Keep them coming!

Bottle (2012)

Thanks for opening this with me, BdubleEdubleRUN!

Hazed golden with a moderately-sized near-white cap. Very appropriate for the style.

Very appropriate for the style: wheat, lemon, some lactic sour character, and a bit of a floral note all come together very nicely.

The flavor is just as nice, with very nice lemon, tartness, and what coming together exceptionally well. I could drink a lot of this.

Thin to medium bodied with high carbonation. Crisp. Disappearing.

A great American-brewed berliner.

Batch #74
A- This beer ours a pale white peach color with a bit of hazy and a creamy snow white head that turns bubble. There is a sea of microbubbles racing to the surface. The second class is much hazier with a massive jetsam that looks like wet paper towels floating around. The second class was too slimy and chunky to drink.

S- The fruity tart note was mellow but bright and took on a nice dry honeycomb note as it opened up. There was a faint wheat dough hint to it aswell.

T- The nice tart crisp presents lead to a softer fruity tartness in the finish with a field corn note in the dry finish. There was a gentle hint of tartness lingering for a moment.

M- The medium-light mouthfeel has no astringency at all with a gentle tight fizz scrubbing the finish.

O- This is a nice tart beer but is much softer than it’s Cousins from Berlinne. It has some nice flavor but I’m not sure a 3.4% ABV bomber is worth $10.00. It was also frustrating that I couldn’t even drink the second glass.

Something different fof Pipeworks, Americo’s bottle. Great hoppy aroma. A creamy head on dark brown. Some chocolate, roasty taste with citrus in the finish. Was expecting more significant sourness in the style.I can only speculate that they purposely concentrated on these other elements.

Hazy goldenrod, murky and opaque, it looks more like a glass of lemonade with heavy pulp, but the huge billowing head of white foam betrays that idea. Lots of sticky lace in the glass, spindly and delicate. Coverage is good and lasts for awhile.

Minerally lactic tartness and champagne aroma, some hints of grape and sourdough bread.

Puckering tartness right away, lemon and grape fruits ride alongside a cleanly sour and bracing acidity. Dry and quenching finish, true to style with a bit of amped up lemony sourness. Great stuff, its definitely an extremely quaffable beer. Really enjoyed drinking the bottle and would love to see it on tap around town in the warmer months.

Glad I picked up two of these, and will try to grab a couple more for when spring finally rolls around.

750ml into a tulip. Batch 74.

A: Pours a slightly hazy bright pale yellow with a large white head. Sticky lacing.

S: Moderate lactic acid, bright lemon, clean grain, some lightly floral esters.

T: Taste brings more bright lemony and lactic tartness, which is quickly joined by smooth wheat malt, a bit of pleasant mineral character, light vanilla. Bready with some lingering acidity in the finish.

M: Light-bodied, zingy yet smooth carbonation.

O: The acidity level here is at just the right amount, and the mouthfeel is on point as well. I really hope the Pipeworks guys make this often, as this is one of the better berliners I've had in a while.
