Bottle from trade. Batch 130. Pours hazy orange with very small white head. Huge floral mango and citrus aroma wafts off this one. Big mango flavor with some lingering grapefruit bitterness. Bitterness grows as I get through this one. As with the other Pipeworks I had, the hops fall a little flat (maybe I'm not a New Zealand guy?). In any case, still a very yummy beer. Slick resiny mouthfeel with lower carbonation for the style.

650ml bottle poured into a Pipeworks Snifter.

The beer pours a honey, copper color, light amber with a slight chill haze with just under a finger of soapy white head that has decent retention and leaves some spotted lace behind. The aroma is of juicy pineapple and mango, bitter piney hops, light grapefruit before a serious caramel malt backbone and boozy alcohol takes over. Lots of juicy tropical fruit on the tongue, with lots of bitter pine trailing and the huge malt presence quickly takes over, very sweet and sticky, almost cloyingly so with an aggressive rush of alcohol at the finish. The body is sticky, juicy, coats the mouth well and finishes with a creamy touch.

Verdict: A pretty sloppy DIPA from Pipeworks, and having had plenty of their of their IPAs, this is a theme. There is a constant battle for attention between the hops and malts and a total lack of balance between the flavors. The fruit character and juicy body work well, but the alcohol is quite punishing and really hurts this beer. They are steadily improving the Ninja line of IPAs, but as of now, the Unicorn line is pretty far from successful.

22oz bomber poured into a snifter. Batch number 130. Every DIPA I've had so far from Pipeworks does not disappoint, so I'm looking forward to this one.

A- Pours a hazy and brilliant orange/ copper color. A small amount of head quickly fades to some froth along the sides of the glass.

S- Great citrus notes in the smell, including orange and grapefruit. Nice floral notes as well along with a sweet maltiness.

T- Great beer. Pine and citrus dominate the taste, balanced with some malts too. A very nice DIPA.

M- Medium bodied, well carbonated, hoppy and bitter. The alcohol is apparent in this one with each sip at 10% ABV, which I like.

Another fantastic DIPA from Pipeworks, this one might be my favorite of the unicorns I've had.
