22oz into a snifter.

A. Caramel color, small light-beige head.

S. Brown sugar, caramel, cooked apple, light citrusy hop notes. Similar to a lot of hoppy American barleywines, but a bit sweeter.

T. Piney bitterness, toffee, graham cracker, grapefruit.

M. Medium-bodied, light carbonation.

O. This is much too hoppy and bitter to really move it from an American-style to an English-style barleywine. Decent, but not my favorite effort from Pipeworks.

Batch 274 275

A: Poured a reddish brown color (more brown than red) without much head to speak of.

S: Meh….. boring. Sugary to say the least, no hop character, and very much like a mallow-creme experiment gone wrong.

T: I had a 2011 Bigfoot, so I guess it's not really fair. Again, nothing……. and I mean really nothing worth noting. Sugar, malt, processed candy, etc. If I were to try this sight unseen, I would have pegged this as a Wee Heavy or something.

M: Not much carbonation, but that's not what barley wines are about anyway. Seriously though, this was RIDICULOUSLY low in carbonation. Pretty much flat.

O: I totally love Pipeworks, but this one is not worth your sobriety. Skip.
